Wonderful to hear you in person, loaded with so much research, info and insight, devastating as some of it was, thank you.

Caaaaarn the Baudins Cockatoo! Help give this endangered bird, whose habitat is under threat from mining and development in WA, a high profile! Help the cause of their conservation and protection!

Labor is ignoring the will of the people, who overwhelmingly voted against the LNP and voted in the independents and Greens. The majority want progressive policies, especially on the environment, not going backwards with the LNP.

Anything but work with the Greens

Donut economics by Kate Raworth is the best model so far to map out the whole system changes needed to live on a healthy planet for the long term. Individual issues eg climate change can silo our attention when we need to change the whole system

What is the cost of not taking action on climate change? Uninsurable houses are just the beginning, repair to infrastructure will be enormous, crop failures.

The new assessment model for NDIS has red flags - fitting the huge diversity of disabilities & their individual needs into a ticking box exercise is not needs based; not using the best evidence, from treating health professionals, makes it inadequate. www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/news/health/...
Algorithm to be used for NDIS plans
The government is using an ‘instrument’ designed by the University of Melbourne to reassess support payments for disabled people.

This is a worry, getting rid of expert reports, 3 hrs by phone, remote, tick boxes? how qualified?

Thank you for bringing sanity, intelligence, informed and civil, interesting discussion to our currently insane world. You are a much needed breath of fresh air.

The polluters and profiteers must pay, not the taxpayers, for disaster relief, a new insurance scheme, adaptation, mitigation and energy transition. It will be hugely expensive and this is the only way to pay for all that is needed
suchitavsmith.bsky.social
Yes! The polluters and profiteers must pay! It is the only way to pay for the huge costs of repair and mitigation of climate change

While large companies stubbornly stick to continuing to make large profits from environmentally destructive actions and products, our earth is being poisoned and trashed, with no regard for our future survival. www.theguardian.com/environment/...
Talks stall on world’s first plastic pollution treaty one day before deadline
Almost 100 countries reject draft treaty as ‘unambitious’ and ‘inadequate’

Evil are those that choose their massive profits over the long term health of our planet. We are drowning in plastics but profits are more important www.facebook.com/share/p/171k...

Does Labor have PTSD from the electoral thumping they got for daring to be bold with monetary policy on negative gearing, franking credits etc years ago? Then before that Whitlam was removed for daring boldness. Is that where this mediocrity stems from?

I can so relate. If I'd known what was entailed in writing and publishing a book when I started 15 yrs ago I never would have started. But here I am, I kept plugging away, kept returning to it, and now I've just finished a pre-publishing edit, with the help of #CastleMountMedia. Publish next March

Monthly reminder: Many people have a book in them, but it takes a special kind of freak to leave the Land of Laziness, cross the Plains of Procrastination and Insecurity Mountain, find the Blade of No One Made You Do This, and use it to cut your chest open and yank that book out.

It's fundamental to a future that doesn't destroy our habitable planet that everything produced needs to be designed for its whole life, ie end of life sustainably as well. We cannot keep living linearly and literally trashing our home, beyond time for a circular economy
suchitavsmith.bsky.social
Economists are still talking about economic growth being the aim, even though growth on a finite planet is killing us. Let's embrace donut economics, living sustainably within the limits.

Flowering now in my garden, the West Australian native plant Templetonia retusa, also called Cockies' Tongue (Cockies short for Cockatoos), about 4cm, that survive tough conditions - poor soil, part shade, limestone, long hot summers, bringing joy and brightness.

It's the myth that growth is good. On a finite planet this is collective suicide. Let's look at Donut economics, living within our limits
suchitavsmith.bsky.social
Almost all of the thinking about how we operate on the planet is stuck in the past, which is resulting in the destruction of our environment that will be at the peril of all on planet earth. Great to see Donut Economics getting some traction. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Gotchas are so boring for the audience; it's like the journos are in their own media bubble whose purpose it is to get clicks and controversy, but they forget about their audience, we remain uninformed and bored and switch off
