i feel bad for the BBC, who now have to wonder whether they can ever do better as DG than a two-time failed Tory parliamentary candidate whose only expertise was in marketing

i see that people are now claiming that the theory of cognitive dissonance is false. But if that were true it would make me a fool for believing it all these years, and I don't think I'm a fool, so I'm going to go ahead and assume the attempted debunking is wrong

it's like they're actively *trying* to speedrun the "let's become the most toxic corporation in the world" challenge
How do you take the minutes for a meeting at which it is agreed to loosen the suicide prevention rules? Does your boss say "make sure that's in writing, otherwise those bastards in the other division will try to wriggle out of it?" Do you report back to your team saying "good news on item 3"?
"OpenAI twice loosened ChatGPT’s rules for discussing suicide in the year before 16-year-old Adam Raine took his own life using a method the chatbot advised him on, according to an amended lawsuit filed by his parents on Wednesday."

My word but the BBC used to make some really good programmes. Here on the BBC iPlayer you can get Bryan Magee's 1987 'The Great Philosophers' series, where you can (as I currently am doing) watch Sydney Morgenbesser talking about Peirce, James and Dewey.

i too am surprised and disappointed that the pop singer T. Swift has not included in her new album a sophisticated new literary-critical interpretation of Shakespeare's play The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark
Taylor Swift reimagines the fate of Ophelia on her new album. The song is a celebration of love, but “there is also something dispiriting about Swift flattening one of literature’s most evocatively alluring heroines into just another princess waiting for her Prince Charming,” our critic writes.
In Taylor Swift’s Version, Ophelia Has a Fairy-Tale Ending
Taylor Swift reimagines the fate of the tragic “Hamlet” heroine on her new album, “The Life of a Showgirl.” But did she really need saving?

Too often people go to university to ‘explore research and knowledge’
Look forward to Wes S saying 'too often people go to hospital to have operations' or Heidi Alexander saying 'too often people go to the station to catch a train'

it's interesting to compare the trajectories of Alastair Campbell and Peter Mandelson, one of whom merrily propagandized for an aggressive war that killed hundreds of thousands of people, while the other had regrettable taste in friends
