Ughh I’ve been working with a dietitian to get an adequate amount of protein and this seemed like the most accessible option but I guess it’s back to the drawing board 🤦🏻‍♀️

We like to pretend the endemic use of the present tense in modern fiction is a stylistic choice. But usually it's a cheap way to disguise mediocre prose, lack of structure, or both. It's like a row of showy petunias planted along a house to disguise cracks in the foundation.

I think role playing seems distinct from self insert since you’d be using your understanding of the character from the text, akin to acting. I do miss message boards from the 00s!

It literally never occurred to me that “self-insert” was a concept until a few years ago! These are fictional characters so I’m curious about them, their motivations, & characterization.
Are self insert readers more common in certain demos or genres? How? I just have so many q’s 🤦🏻‍♀️
