I am working on a text that focuses on Hannah Arendt’s Lessing Prize speech from 1959 that she entitled “On humanity in dark times” (Menschlichkeit in finsteren Zeiten). I am thinking of her a lot and am sure she would be truly devastated and shocked if she were alive today.

Der Wettbewerb geht um Geld. Nicht um Forschung oder internationale Sichtbarkeit. Außer, diese ist mit Geld verbunden. Können wir nicht einfach mal direkt sagen, dass hier um Geld „gewettbewerbt“ wird und nicht um Exzellenz? Und dass das eigentliche Ziel - Forschung - dabei oft aus dem Blick gerät?
‼️Ebenso wissen wir jetzt, dass sich 15 Unis Hoffnung machen dürfen, im Neuantragsverfahren als Exzellenzuniversität ausgewählt zu werden. Der Wettbewerb um Spitzenforschung und internationale Sichtbarkeit ist spannender denn je!

Da gerade immer mehr Ökonom:innen warnen, dass Deutschlands Umgang mit seiner (sinkenden) Schuld an eine ökonomisch gefährliche Phobie grenzt: In der Schweiz, wo Keller-Sutter im Juni eine neue Sparrunde ankündigte, liegt die Schuld noch um 1/4 tiefer. 👇
