Indeed he was. I watch DEATH IN VENICE at least once a year, and I saw the documentary about him. I'm sorry the experience of making DIV was so painful to him.

The Democratic Party's biggest problem is that it has not learned how to play the politics of identity. We could have loyalists who would vote for them forever if they could build an identity they could find meaning in.
