One thing I wanna say is that much of what made D'Angelo so great is that he understood he was part of a continuum, a legacy, a lineage of great Black music across the generations. Not just that, but also the way that they demonize women making sure that the now "desexualized woman" is still waspish. A thin waist and small body. The body to be feminine isn't allowed to have muscle or fat or be anything other than hourglass.
