To be clear, there is NO association between acetaminophen and autism:

October 18. Who’s in? 👀

Millions turned out for No Kings—one of the largest protest days in U.S. history. Together we showed the world that Americans won’t bow to a wannabe dictator. This October, we’ll be even louder, stronger, and we won’t stop here.

I started following this account years ago because of a sweet rescue cow named Crouton. One of Crouton’s moms just died of a brain aneurysm, and during their tragedy they thought of others and gave the gift of life through organ donation. To Beth: you and D saved people. So much love 💚 #donatelife
D’s honor walk. Deeply moving moment of grace. Another family member filmed because I was just trying to remain upright.
Texas currently receives $2,634,516,414 from #NIH annually and 1/3 goes to the #TexasMedicalCenter, including #BaylorCollegeofMedicine. Medical research is an important contributor to our local economy!!!

Welcome immigrants from X interested in science to the friendlier skies of @bsky.app, as documented by a new @nature.com survey (but you already knew that 😉)

Study sections are the review panels that allocate NIH research grants. They bring in experts from around the country and have to be scheduled many months in advance; they provide the funds that keep the nation's biomedical research going.

It's hard to overstate the disruption this causes.
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

Scientists in the US have won a lot of Nobel Prizes because of world-leading research funding and immigration. I guess we're giving that up to China now.

I heard from an SRO that only a small number of study sections have been canceled so far. Until further notice, they are proceeding assuming Feb/March meetings are still on.

No question that this week’s cancelations are devastating and more may follow.

But we also need to stick to facts.

All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

NIH funding supports the vast majority of all biomedical research in the United States. Virtually every advance in American medicine and biological science comes from NIH. This is a blow against American science.

Call Congress, 202-224-3121.

New study in JAMA Network Open finds females are at higher risk for #LongCOVID compared to males. The risk peaks in ages 40-55 and is influenced by pregnancy and menopause. Biological differences matter for understanding and treating Long COVID!

Sex Differences in Long COVID
This cohort study examines whether there are differences in the risk of developing long COVID, or post-COVID condition, by sex.

I truly hope this is brief and not a complete course correction but anything is possible with this ill-informed administration. #nih
Amazing - Norepinephrine release from the locus coeruleus drives glymphatic clearance from the brain during sleep! 15 years ago I studied how NE release from the LC modulates critical periods in the olfactory bulb 🤯
So apparently we now know why we sleep?!

A study published this week in Cell shows that although sedatives and anesthetics out you to “sleep”, they don’t allow for normal glymphatic clearance of waste products that occurs during sleep.

Norepinephrine oscillations during NREM sleep drive synchronized changes in cerebral blood volume and cerebrospinal fluid, promoting glymphatic clearance. Optogenetic and pharmacological manipulations...
