Actually I do want to say that I understand and respect the concerns of monetizing fandom, and I realize there is a slippery slope. For instance, I too look upon the recent Dr*mione trad published novels with distaste (though much of that has to do with supporting that awful woman and her IP).

In these spaces, and I want these spaces to continue to exist. Fanfic authors, fan artists, so many of us are so passionate, and I want to protect the passion. I also recognize that this isn't entirely black and white, but I hope to be consistent. Those are my final thoughts ♡

My tldr is that I am not a fan of patreons in concern for fandom. It's great when things are still posted for free, but I fear this encourages bad actors to come to this space to exploit it. I worry that if we are not careful, actual IP owners will come after these spaces. I love creators (1/2)

I can assure you I am making no money off of my twitch. I stream raids for vods for my raid group. It is also the easiest way for people outside of my static to watch our prog (other friends). But ty for checking out my profile

I do enjoy the wimsy and magic of fandom through gifts and trades. I have plenty of fanart that was gifted to me on display. I also will buy zines where profit funds go to charity. Monetizing fandom is a slippery slope and that is the stance I hold.

I completely understand and am perfectly happy to agree to disagree! Everyone engages in this space different, and I can't help but express concern for putting Fandom behind paywalls, no matter the medium, but that is my own opinion and perspective. Happy this all has a respectful conclusion :)

Final thought: Different mediums do have different ways of legally working around things when it comes to Fandom. It's not fun but it's true. For us as writers, you have to scrape off serial numbers the same way artists sell "blue turtle" stickers instead of squirtle stickers.

This was all brought to my attention by people in Fandom who were concerned by this growing trend of people profiting off of fandom works. Original works? Go off, get bread, make money, but I have to fundamentally disagree with selling fanfic access.

And that is all I have to say about that.

Reminder: don't pay for fanart unless it's a commission. I am friends with both fan artists and fanfic authors and I can assure everyone, my stance is exactly the same for both :)

I am a fanfic author myself, so this is my domain and where my concern originates. Fandom 4 profit is big sad

Do you have this energy for the 1000s of fan artists on Patreon, inprnt, redbubble, or is it only writers you criticize?

The entire fic will be fully posted on AO3 but people can choose to buy the ebook for a visually appealing layout - do you callout zines or doujin artists for their efforts too?

I'm just going to remind everyone, please don't pay money for fanfic unless it is a commission. This is not the way yall. I am all for artists and writers making money, but starting to monetize Fandom and passion projects just really isn't the vibe and sets a bad precedent.
