According to a Flemish folktale, a man was walking his two dogs at night when all of a sudden he saw a cat. He threw a stick at the cat because he suspected the animal was a witch. Five minutes later, he found himself surrounded by hundreds of cats who threw mud at him.

and and. both ww and vash see each others philosophies as convenient without really understanding the difficulties of either of them, yeah? like when vash kills legato and he thinks back on when he called ww a coward in that moment...
and both of those deaths are a sort of redemption for them
yess omg i appreciate those insights. all of what you said is so present both in the dynamics and disagreements between ww and vash and vash and knives

v interesting 2 note that both ww and knives die as a result of choosing a different path, too.
because he doesnt believe he can. And that right there is like a huge component of this story. What happens when we decide our futures are forfeit.

Im hopeful we will see him change both internally and externally some point throughout stargze after vash, milly and meryl all have an effect on him.
he doesnt even seem to give a single shit about his own freedom (contrast that to midvalley), just cares about protecting his home, his family.

he does not see himself as a person anymore. he has decided who and what he is a long time ago. so no, he probably hasnt really changed-
for presumably decades (compare the date on his eom contract to meryls resume. i dont think hes literally a child anymore, im guessing hes been doing this shit for maybe 30/40 years maybe more..but maybe not too much more bcs i think melanie is still alive??)
to me it almost immediately communicated: wolfwood hasnt changed. yeah, he hasnt really changed. why would he?

this is a dude who has been beaten into submission over and over again since he was just a child. hes been living the same way, thinking the same way, doing the same things--
i saw some people commenting on the fact that wolfwoods outfit hasnt changed. and im gonna feel real sillyhead if im wrong about this, but i dont think i am.

with all the thought put into design choices, do you really think thats not intentional?
gonna quote this to keep another thought separate-- what if in the anime medium, wolfwoods dress shirt is not white but instead red?
as vashs coat appears white in the manga, with black underneath. wolfwoods suit is black with white underneath. I believe this is communicating something like "within the other, the other is contained".
theres more to these things than meets the eye, theres rarely ever convenient answers or absolutes we can refer to, and (ironically) nothing is really black and white, not even things that *appear* to be (literally and figuratively).
A lot of messages here of how things appear to be opposing aren't separate, and are in fact unified wholes; masculine and feminine are not separate, good has bad and bad has good; what appears to be good or bad is not always so.
Later this black and white imagery is used in the final battle with knives, where we can see that light does not always represent goodness and dark does not always represent badness, as here it is knives who is the predominantly light aspect, and vash is predominantly dark.
They go on infinitely within each other, they transform each other, and they are inverted mirrors that keep speaking into and of each other with no end.
but anyway. beneath wws darkness, light. beneath vashs light, darkness. but even that is not absolute; it goes on infinitely, because darkness contains and cannot exist without light, and light contains and cannot exist without darkness.
(its funny too that in the manga death scene, even as ww is communicated subtxtually as the bride, hes the one wearing the suit, and v is the one wearing a coat that ~just so happens~ to look like a white dress in the manga medium-- at least, i think so. its a very odd coincidence if nothing else).
as vashs coat appears white in the manga, with black underneath. wolfwoods suit is black with white underneath. I believe this is communicating something like "within the other, the other is contained".
straying a bit from the fem/masc and more into general dualism thoughts now:

i believe nightow uses the manga medium to convey some dualism symbolism, --
Also, its interesting that wolfwood is vashs self proclaimed guide, but he often is seen trailing behind vash, watching over him and literally and figuratively following him. Ww allows vash to take the lead more than he outwardly appears to.
