Whenever politicians talk about "efficiency" in public services, they almost always mean "cuts" and not "an investment here will cut failure demand there".

the fact that USDA tells grocers that they cannot give SNAP recipients discounts in times when people are starving is a whole different kind of cruelty. People will die from this, and none of them had to.

Today is a federal holiday which means government offices are closed today. Also tomorrow and for the foreseeable future. Unless you're in the House of Representatives, in which case you've already had most of August, September, and half of October off. It's like Ramadan, only longer and no fasting.
