“Walking & cycling group SPACE for Gosforth said that the council had “prioritised vehicle speed over road safety, treating Gosforth High Street as an inconvenience to be bypassed rather than a destination for the local community”

This is not a safe design for children walking & cycling to school.
Newcastle City Council's latest plans for Gosforth High Street include the removal of cycle routes and the addition of three new stretches of bus lane

So why isn’t there a safe cycle route there from #Gosforth?

It would be a great destination for a family bike ride!

561 runners at the last Town Moor parkrun.

Good to see @chroniclelive.co.uk reporting on this - but a shame that neither the article nor the council officers have addressed how all the events in the park will work without toilets.

The reasoning here is hard to understand - 20 mph would seem reasonable given there are stretches without pavements.

Actually lots of extra help in this guidance with more nuance around different conditions and much of this should be standard practice anyway.

It won't change the minds of the folks who are against floating bus stops and it still leaves us with the edge cases of shared use bus boarders plus

Very exciting news for public transport users in the region, with the Pop card finally starting to reach its full potential. We've long called for integration of tickets for public transport, where users can switch easily between modes with simple tickets.

Really interesting discussion about how integration, modernising our rail network & being able to safely walk & cycle to bus / rail stops could vastly improve transport in our region - & how we need politicians to champion this.

Important news for Newcastle folk - please share!

Newcastle Council plan to close the cafes in Exhibition & Paddy Freeman’s Parks.

One serious problem with this is that closing the cafes = no toilets. That is going to make going to the park very difficult for some residents.

V interesting article on Bikeability.

Questions for @junasathian.bsky.social & @mikecookson.bsky.social:
1. Do children still need their own bikes? This might explain why RGS has higher take up than Elswick?
2. Why are council officers using paper records rather than spreadsheets?

My (unqualified) thoughts should Manors mainline be redeveloped in future for improved service & accessibility, and presumably increased line capacity too.
