Chris Grigoroff formed Souled American in 1986 with bassist Joe Adducci, drummer Jamey Barnard, and guitarist Scott Tuma.

In late-July 1989, a few months after the release of Flubber, the band arrives in California and the LA Weekly celebrates them thus: "funky hillbilly-rock that captures the dark, charred heart and speed-addled brain of the American truckstop spirit..."

I love this scrap. While sequencing their second album "Flubber," Souled American heard that Rough Trade label-mates The Feelies called them the "most musically talented on our roster."
