"A shutdown falls on the President’s lack of leadership. He can’t even control his own party and get people together in a room. A shutdown means the president is weak." - Donald J Trump 2013 on Fox News

Create plausible deniability by adding a clause like “I would argue” or “it is my understanding” — a politician can later deny the assertion. Manage public perception. Avoid full responsibility: a qualifying statement can prevent being held fully accountable for a policy’s outcome.

"Because you're only seeing this in people who are under 50 years of age. If it were better recognition or diagnosis, you'd see it in a 70 year old men. I've never seen this happening in people my age. I've never seen a case of full blown autism....

Correlations everywhere. If correlation alone proved causation, we’d be warning people about the dangers of drinking water and breathing air during pregnancy.
Correlation ≠ Causation. 🤦‍♀️
The dumbification of the US is wild.

Media Literacy Part 7:
Misinformation & evasion tactics

Your TV is not a window. Notice how content creators, and talking heads speak. We're being bought and sold.

“The media profits off us being divided — because anger keeps you watching, and watching makes them money.” -Josh Johnson

Personal attack tactics during Debates or Conversation
Ad hominem: Attacking the character or personal traits

Appeals to emotion (Pathos): Manipulating an audience's emotions instead of a logical argument.

Once you spot these in television, internet... it's impossible not see.

Moving the goalposts is when Bob demands evidence of evolution, then rejects proof of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and shifts criteria to 'long periods of species change.' The fallacy is shifting standards so the opponent can’t ever meet them or win the argument.

Example of a slippery slope:
Action: Legalizing same-sex marriage.
Claimed progression: Breakdown of traditional marriage, then people marrying objects or animals.
Flawed logic: No logical link between same-sex marriage and these extreme outcomes—the leap itself is the issue.

Highlighting media literacy because once you learn to spot dishonest arguments, you see them everywhere.

A false dichotomy presents only two choices when more exist.
Example: “You’re either with us or against us.”
Why false: It forces a choice between extremes, ignoring neutrality, disagreement, or other perspectives.

Media Literacy Post 2:
A:
"I think we should have better student-teacher ratios in schools so that each student gets more individual attention."
B:
"So you want to bankrupt the school system & waste all our tax money by hiring so many teachers that no one can afford to pay for anything?"

Please stop pointing out the shooter was from a White Conservative Christian law enforcement family and that he was raised in gun culture. It’s probably just a coincidence like so many of the other ones just like him.

Many adults today don’t remember the smell of the smoke, plumes in the sky, the sufficating silence in the days after, or knowing neighbors lost family. Those of us who lived it will never forget—the shock, the crisp air on that beautiful day, the weight of grief etched into memory. Never Forget.

Psalm 7:15–16 "Whoever digs a hole and scoops it out falls into the pit they have made. The trouble they cause recoils on them; their violence comes down on their own heads."

I first post about this was word-salad-y... To be very clear, I am not celebrating his death. However, when someone spends their life steeped in hate — inciting, promoting violence, spreading ignorance — it’s not surprising when the harm they put into the world eventually comes back to them.

Full Collapse and War All the Time by Thursday are still so damn relevant, and are end of summer to middle of September albums no matter how much it hurts. 💔 "And history is all the same. Everything you say, you stole. Every dream you dreamt, you bought."
