#PeoplesPop25 7. "Ring Ring Ring" by Tyler the Creator

classic last day tactical boost! This one's on two votes last I checked so let's get it to three.

#PeoplesPop25 Day 6. "I Want You (Fever)" by Momma

This might be the most a song has won me over on first listen this year. The platonic ideal of mall rock revivalism.

#PeoplesPop25 Day 5. "Reality TV Argument Bleeds" by Wednesday

I truly do like "Elderberry Wine" but it being the lead single for this album did make me worry that Wednesday were going Tasteful Country Rock for the whole album. This being the first track on Bleeds dispelled that nice and quick.

#PeoplesPop25 Day 4. "Dumb Feeling" by Mei Semones

Son of Mecha Mummy Don't Post Mei Semones in a 2024/25 Music Challenge: FAILED.

I especially like how well this song showcases her whole band. She has a great band! There's stand-up bass and viola in there! That's neat as hell!

the John Denver/Muppets Christmas special is one of the weirder mixes of melancholy and earnest you'll ever see, with occasional bits of "oh right you're watching the Muppets" to right the ship before it gets sad again. And you can listen to me talk about it/the sinister forces bankrolling it here!
PATREON EXCLUSIVE: It's time for John Denver & The Muppets: A Christmas Together from Dec. 5, 1979; a bizarrely moody and depressing special with an abundance of baffling music choices, set-pieces and Du Pont propaganda!

#PeoplesPop25 Day 3. "House" by Charli Xcx (ft. John Cale)

love that this isn't just a John Cale collab but the *most* John Cale collab. Just a spooky spoken word piece with discordant strings blaring at you every so often. Good stuff! The soundtrack this is for, if not its movie, has my attention.

a year that begins with the loss of david lynch and ends with the loss of rob reiner qualifies as a nightmare

The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.

#PeoplesPop25 Day 2. "mangetout" by Wet Leg

this is my pick for the Wet Leg song that finishes second in the poll, as tradition must be upheld. Lot of songs I like on their sophomore album but this one got stuck in my head for days.

oh hey gonna post 7 of my fav songs from this year for this #PeoplesPop25 deal

Day 1. "Love" by Ami Taf Ra (ft. Ryan Porter)

and of course I'm starting with jazz. Gorgeous, ethereal vocal jazz! Seven minutes of it! Heard this on the radio late at night a couple weeks ago and was transfixed by it.

aaaand here's how the ballot I submitted did. 7/10. Cardigans getting in was a delight, as was Donny making top 200. GGs. #xpncountdown

"Killing Me Softly With His Song" by The Fugees is my seventh and almost certainly final ballot pick to make it in. Boy oh boy hearing Lauryn go for this note live a couple years ago a lovely moment. #xpncountdown

I do find it kinda funny that the patient zero of the Sad Cover in Film/TV Show/Video Game trailer epidemic is this cover of... well, not the peppiest song.

(or do I find it kinda sad? idk) #xpncountdown

every single time I hear "Blinded By the Light" I forget that they play Chopsticks until it's suddenly dropped on my head like a sack of flour. #xpncountdown

"America" by Yes into "Mr. Tambourine Man" by the Byrds? Is a Cool Segue. Not so surprising I guess. #xpncountdown

Nirvana's cover of "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" was on my ballot. I'm usually not listening to Nirvana on a "here's what Kurt is doing with his voice" level exactly but boy am I ever with this one. Haunting. #xpncountdown
