Working on late game balancing is hard. And plotting the story of a book/game is hard.

The limitations placed on the main party by nobles and the king are annoying to deal with, even with outside help and their planning. Perhaps one of the pinches could have to do with a devastating battle that the army lost? Or a seige?? Oooh so many options~

This is something I'm a little bit less sure about, but I have ideas. The arc after the introductory ones would show Lowen's growing confidence and skill, Aisling's connection to the town and it's people, and the pressure the war puts on everyone, even the awful aristocrats.

Honestly, what is this war nobody wants even about? Lowen would probably know, but considering...well, nobody wants the war in the first place, maybe the group could eventually learn, and try and get it to stop?

Lowen's and his knights/squadron are probably moving out to meet the king. Though, knowing the themes of the story, I doubt that will be all they do. Maybe a village is in danger and they stop to help.
Whatever they do...it would waste some time. But it's worth it to be kind.

King Wesley, his advisors, and the nobles of his court all a) don't care about the common people and just want this war to end and b) REALLY seem to hate Lowen's dad, and are taking it out on him and his group.
This makes it hard for Lowen to do much outside of what he's told.

The main person who needs to change is Lowen. If he doesn't, people may die needlessly. It's just a matter of how many times he needs to witness his people suffer for him to get it.
Aisling also may need to gain the resolve to fight the system as well. May take less convincing.

WEAPON RANKS ARE BEING IMPLIMENTED
Classes with have fixed weapon ranks, instead of being forced to rely on a Mastery level ups.
It's taking....a lot of effort. But I think it'll be worth it.

Aisling grew up as a commoner in a poor area and gained a desire to care for those like her Lowen grew up as a noble, feeling the weight of his title and the eyes of spiteful nobles, and seeks to be a good leader.
Their upbringing changed them more than any major events.

Lowen is empathetic, earnest, and humble, to the point where he can potentially be seen as easy to control or bully. He is.

Other nobles impose on the goals of the main characters, making it harder or impossible to do their main goal of protecting the innocent and ending the war quickly. Lowen is obligated to work with the nobles, as he is a blueblood himself. Aisling though...not quite as much.
