To all you storm chasers, my hat's off to you for your skill. Lightning all around me, 300 photos later, but no capture. Sitting in my car in the Eastern Sierra thinking it might be time to move a little further away. #EasternSierra, #storm, #BlueSkyPhotographers, #SonyA7IV

HELP SAVE SCIENCE

The attacks from this regime are killing science, but we can do something about it.

Follow @standupforscience.bsky.social, watch this video, and go to their page where they have a plan for every day August.
This August, we’re turning concern into collective action and you’re invited.

Our founder & executive director @cdelawalla.bsky.social breaks it down here 👇

We’ve got the tools, training, & community to make it easy. Links in thread to get involved!
Yea, easy to get distracted with beauty surrounding you.
Yes, have pulled some spines out of an arm from this venue.
Rich tones. Especially love the last image. Reminds me of melted chocolate.
12 years ago, armed w/ my Canon 5DMII, I went to the coast to satisfy my Milky Way "Jones." My love affair with the Milky Way continues to this day. Found this little gem which I had not processed until today. #MilkyWay #nightsky #Sonoma #bioluminescence #nightskyphotographers
As a still image, this is so serene. Having personally experienced the Aurora, the actual feeling of witnessing this beauty was anything but.

Quick update: I have suddenly been struck down by a severe flare of my autoinflammatory condition (Yao Syndrome), & am currently out of commission. To be quite honest, I am struggling to manage this as my health insurer (Anthem) is refusing to cover medically necessary meds.

I mean...yeah. Just a mind-boggling self-inflicted wound, on top of many other recent ones.
This is fucking insane. Closing these NOAA labs would obliterate our ability to observe, understand, and forecast the Earth System, from weather systems tomorrow to sea levels 50 years from now.
What a tragedy this is even being proposed on paper... 💔

In a reflecting mood, reliving some wonderful nights under the stars. C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) and the Milky Way. Single image taken 10-23-24

One Still Night in Yosemite. Unable to do any photography for a while, I couldn't stand it any longer and went back through some of my older images and reprocessed this one. It made me feel a lot better.
Between these two, the color. That said Michael’s suggestion of red filter and more contrast in the B & W is much stronger and brings more attention to the horses.
Inspired by your video and the images you got, I gave the falls a go as well. This detail and your timing are absolutely wonderful.
Compelling texture Matt. Lots of little trails for the eye to travel.

People having been asking: "Are these cuts really that big of a deal? Could people really die?"

And the answer is: This exact situation, during a major hurricane/flood/tornado/wildfire event, is precisely how that would happen.
