Mecha are hard to design if youre not in the right headspace for it. The closest would be like. Full plate mail on a figure, so you need to mess with organic and inorganic forms in a humanoid configuration

This has been my philosophy on comics backgrounds for decades now. Not just to save time, but also it balances establishing the physicality of the setting while also focusing in on the character's dialog, expressions, and actions when needed. Like zooming in on details.
