As a sleep researcher in Minnesota, one of my joys is to find insects who fall asleep in their food on chilly evenings.

We're messing with the two systems that run sleep:

Sleep Drive = hunger for sleep (driven by adenosine buildup) Circadian Rhythm = your 24-hour internal clock (driven by light/darkness)

Coffee at 4pm + screens at 11pm = confused brain.
You’ve heard of a nappiccino…does a nap in the sunshine have a similar effect?
Did I enjoy this iced coffee and crush my afternoon work? Yes. Do I care to comment on last night’s sleep? No.

Definately my weirdest scientific idea yet: Can humans sleep one half of their brains at a time when they sleep in water, like dolphins do? Certainly no proof of that yet - but we have a method to maybe catch it. And, Yes, a human can fall asleep floating in a fluid. lnkd.in/gUHSRjug

🧠💤 Memory consolidation during sleep is metabolically tuned? Short-term fasting enhances hippocampal ripples, cortical spindles, and slow oscillations, and shifts slow oscillation–spindle phase-amplitude coupling—all without altering overall sleep architecture.

Fun collab with Nishi Bhopal and Psychiatric Times, met some great people at the shoot and talked all things sleep including a personal favorite topic, #narcolepsy

Catching the last rays of the day
Yesterday I lunged every kind of lunge so today was a warm up on the bike and a yoga flow that ended up being more 🔥 than recovery. Excuse me while I crawl up the stairs.
Getting a spin sweat on at the Y while everyone else lines up for a turn on the glute thruster. Mood boosting + mood lighting
Laughing bc this thread brings back happy childhood memories of “sleeping” at my grandmas house! On the floor with a blanket in the dining room while the adults talked over the 11 o’clock news and 100 clocks ticked and chimed away
Hee hee, no this was at dinner last night. And YES this year I’m finally going to make it to SLEEP! So excited! Must have selfie with the king of selfies, ahem.

"Daylight saving time is akin to setting our body’s natural 24-hour clock ahead by an hour. It should come as no surprise, then, that many people will feel less alert in the morning immediately after the clocks shift ahead."

Sleep medicine, not sleep apnea medicine.

I read it for the first time last year, and only because my teenager loved and recommended it. Enjoy your time away!
