#SKYPITCH GUIDELINES
To keep it clear and simple, our 1st #skypitch event is for PICTURE BOOKS only. Bluesky has a character limit of 300, so you have to craft a tight pitch that fits the limit.
Pitch each story in one Bluesky post using the #SkyPitch hashtag! (Agented authors should include the #agented hashtag.)
Agents and Editors on BlueSky might read the pitches, and like the post, inviting the author to send them the manuscript in a query. Only agents and editors should like a pitch. Please reply to pitches you want to support, but refrain from hitting the heart to like the pitch unless you are inviting the author to query. To keep people's timeline free of repeat posts, we're also asking for people to refrain from reposting. This helps isolate agent interactions for the authors and filters out engagements that aren't requests.
If an agent or editor does like your post, check their submission guidelines and do your research before submitting a query! DON'T just DM an agent or editor, check to see how they would like you to submit.
You can pitch up to three picture books, but only pitch each one once.
If you are an author/illustrator, you can attach an image to your pitch (or you can create a mood board as long as you credit the image creator. Refrain from Al images and content). You can use additional hashtags to identify your sub genre, editors and agents will look for this (#SEL= Social Emotional
Learning, #NF = Nonfiction, #C= Concept, #L= Lyrical, #|= Interactive etc.).
THE GOAL IS TO BUILD COMMUNITY. DO YOUR BEST TO SUPPORT YOUR FELLOW CREATIVES AND HELP PROMOTE OUR PRESENCE HERE.

What is it?
An event designed to uplift and encourage members of the writing, game development, TTRPG, and comic communities. All works are welcome, regardless of the stage they are in (e.g. Work In Progress, Querying, On Submission, or Published in any form)
When: Jan 13, 2025 12-12 EST
Rules
-Limit 3 posts per work; multiple works allowed.
-Use appropriate tags (see below).
-Be sure to include the correct emoji for your post to end up in the proper feed.
-All images/moodboards must include alt text. Use of AI images is prohibited.
-Likes, reposts, and comments are encouraged.

We had a picture book pitch event in October as a litmus test and had over 700 pitches. Agents did show up, although not at the volume of past Twitter events. But it was a good trial run. #skypitch

We held #skypitch last month as a proof of concept to see if a pitch event is viable here! It had a huge response, and a few agents participated. Interested to see how agencies respond to the influx this week.

We had in the ballpark of 700 pitches, and a small handful of agent likes. There were an awful lot of non-agent likes that made it hard to get a good count. It exceeded my expectation for the number of participants, I believe people loved connecting and sharing their work!

Well, we only had a handful of Agents, but it was cathartic for everyone and the turnout for pitches was great. And it connected a lot of creatives. It definitely worked as a proof of concept!

I really do believe this is the best thing about Bluesky in its current incarnation. Everywhere else feels like you're wearing a sandwich board trying to get people to talk to you, but those people are wearing their own sandwich boards. I'm actually having conversations with people here!

The collapse of pitch parties on X left a hole, and feedback over the year made me realize many people working alone in the query trenches needed to interact and get feedback. Agent/editor likes isn’t the only reason to do this. Bluesky excels at letting you mingle with other creatives! ❤️

#skyfeed was planned as a proof of concept to gauge community response / gather metrics we can all use to show that Bluesky is a worthwhile social media platform to adopt.

And a cathartic release for creators who are working and querying in a vacuum to get feedback & connect with other creators.👍
