I think the reason why it’s so hard to cultivate a work ethic is because there’s no incentive anymore. In the past, a teenager working part time could earn enough to buy and maintain a used car. Now, that same job can’t even pay for the fuel.

I did have the privilege of reading “The Running Man” by @stephenking.bsky.social long after the Schwarzenegger movie (yes, it was the Bachman novel). Now having seen the new movie…

Apparently it’s a crime to remind military members to follow the law and refuse illegal orders (something that it is ingrained in basic) and the pentagon can recall you into the service to discipline you. However, the pentagon will not prosecute you for dodging the draft five times.
