I was mostly looking at the apps that take the tts into a shortened script so that they don’t have to read the actual text or the ones that get fed into chatgpt for a summary. I’ve used the Microsoft tts for text books and journals. I also have a tts pen I bought years ago.

I’ve gone to the library and asked them to purchase the audiobooks for books I’ve wanted to read. They are more than happy to do it. YouTube has uploads of older books. The reading strips to help block the sentences for focusing help too. AI is lazy and disrespectful.

As someone who has adhd and dyslexia: using a terrible AI app to convert books into audiobooks and using ADHD/Dyslexia as a reason to justify it, is still fucked up and not a valid excuse.

I guess it would be against the school but teachers don’t usually see the fundraising part anyway, and I’m certainly not going to force my kids to participate for some cheap ass prizes that I can like get for a dollar in bulk and give it to them that way, saves everybody the trouble.

I can’t imagine families having to tell their kids sorry we can’t do this. You can’t win these cheap ass prizes that you really want because nothing is affordable. Especially before snap benefits go away, like who was thinking about timing. I don’t participate in stuff like this.

I used to be that kid that would go to these fundraiser things and see all the prizes and would come home and see that like no one could afford the trash that are a part of these fundraisers. Like plastic toys that’ll break or cheap clothes that’ll end up at the thrift store. I don’t know.

Like it would be different if we knew where the money was going like last year. This year it’s like left in the wind. Where is the money going? Why are we setting these goals? Why are we asking these families to funnel so much money into this when the money could be used somewhere more important.

I don’t feel comfortable pushing fundraisers especially in my area, as a teacher who sees low income kids barely able to afford a pair of clothes let alone family members that probably can’t afford anything either, for a goal to help the school that wasn’t run by the teachers.

Buying that awful transphobic woman’s movies and books at the thrift store that supports lgbtq+ youth is gold. What’s even better is reading the books as an adult and realizing she fucking sucked at writing. Like what was that whole last book? Not to mention the shameless copying off of LOTR. 🤡
