Izumi Takano was actually supposed to be what Nozomi was going to be in Shenmue 1 but they ended up going with Nozomi as we know her now. Izumi Takano was eventually saved for Shenmue 2 and that was the right choice in the end.

Shenmue is a series that is known for being a goofy game about sailors and forklifts because the English dub makes those moments memeable and leads to the series being mocked and ridiculed.

The Japanese version is 100% better.

In the Hazuki Residence, a butsudan/altar room can be visited throughout Shenmue 1 and Ryo will pray and talk to his father about what he's doing in certain parts of the story. most players most likely miss this.
