Yeah, they developed that game in 3 years on new hardware as their first HD game. I think they killed it under those conditions and it's absolutely a quality product, but it had its fair share of flaws for sure.

Gen 10 looks to be on a 4 year cycle so hopefully that's enough time to cook it right.

The devs realized that more =/= better but still want to introduce more pokemon to keep the series going so they compromised with the new approach and it works. Completing a game's national dex isn't a tremendous pain in the ass anymore. And Home is still there for the long-time collectors.

It's not a matter of how many people will buy the games, believe it or not but the devs at GF actually care about delivering a quality product, and bloating one game's national dex with every single pokemon would make it more of a mess than a quality product. Gens 6 and 7 were already getting there.

Also, competitive is a core pillar of the series and is something that by necessity needs to be taken into account with every mainline game.

It's not the main draw but you can't just brush it aside as something that can be comfortably ignored either, VGC is huge.

I mean yes, it's absolutely possible to have 1200 pokemon in a game.

It'd be a bloated broken mess with next to no animations or the usual charm that the series has, and would have to be half as ambitious in all other facets, but if you're arguing solely that the number is possible then sure.

Again, you are comparing a game with 1200 monsters that have no animations at all and no competitive to balance around, and you keep saying it's proof that GF can do the same in their games with tons of animations and a competitive scene.

I doubt even massive AAA studios could pull all of that off.

Pokemon games are nearly as complicated with as many if not more moving parts than most AAA games and are made with half the team size and half the time.

BG3 took at least twice the time to develop if not more than the typical Pokemon game. Again, this is far, far more complicated than "hire more"

TCPi is in charge of the most profitable franchise on the planet. Game Freak is in charge of the games that make a small fraction of that profit. Simply throwing money at the problem and hiring more people is not a feasible solution the same way adding more lanes doesn't stop traffic jams.

Something tells me you don't know how much work it is to model, animate, and balance hundreds of playable characters, let alone over 1000. Even with simple animations, though pokemon animations are way more complex than you seem to think too.

Next to impossible with the teams and timeframes GF has.

Never heard of that so I looked it up. Shame about it using AI for translations because it looks dope otherwise.

It's also a 2D game with still sprites for the monsters and far as I can tell no competitive multiplayer to balance around those 1200 mons. So not really a good comparison here.

Not a very high percentage but that has nothing to do with what Pat said tbh. Nor does what makes it "interesting to watch"

But also, almost everything you've referred to doesn't apply to the official competitive format at all, which imo is way more interesting than 6v6 singles.
