Happy Winter Solstice everyone.
One of my first oil paintings from 1996 of Avebury where I went to primary school. Being there had a profound influence on my work.

An 'extraordinary' wind at Tarbat, Easter Ross, broke an 'obelisk' #OTD in 1674, according to local Sir George MacKenzie. Research by Sally Foster suggests this was the Hilton of Cadboll Pictish cross-slab, whose break left its lower section buried. 📸National Museums Scotland #medievalsky

St. Patricks Graveyard • Kilmovee • Mayo

In the east of County Mayo, near the Roscommon border, you can find the remains of a small medieval church set within a historic graveyard that has been in use for centuries.

An atmospheric place where you can feel a deep well of time.

Ireland is blessed with some of the best preserved early medieval landscapes in Europe.

Here are just a few of my favourite sites from early medieval Ireland, all dating between c.400–1170 AD.
