It cost about $250 back in the 1950s. That's $2500-$3000 now. It was pretty top of the line at the time, and it's still coveted today.

Kenmore 117.841, made for Sears by Gritzner-Kayser (via White, who had little to do with it). Came with a full set of cams 🙌.

Wiring is bad so I won't do more until I address that.

Mom had one - I remember sewing on it. 💜

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

That's a very early 15. I'd snag it at that price (assuming they're a legit seller). Japanning is cracking. Clean it all gently with good oil, then seal it with a good oil based poly to protect the finish. Oil based poly will stabilize both the Japanning and the decals and prevent rust.

solid model that's plentiful & affordable. Only some latest versions had reverse, & they were electric. Instead of reverse to start the stitching, you just use a very short stitch length. Reverse isn't a deal breaker to me, but ymmv.

A Singer 15 would also be a fantastic choice. Bit heavier.

Oh wow that's so cool! I mentioned to the husband once that when we move I want room for a loom. 😂

As far as treadles, Singer or otherwise, your life will be a little easier if it uses standard class 15 needles & CL15 or CL66 bobbins, as they're still made today.

A Singer 66 would be a good

I do that, too. Depends on the project. I have many old sewing machines just because I love old machines, and that's ok, too. But I will try to enable others when I can. 😉
