#VintageSewingMachine

I've set up a Discord for sewing machine collectors who want a place to buy/sell/trade parts, talk about machines, ask for help or destash notions or fabric.

I don't see myself staying on Bluesky long term. I want a place where I can still help out.

I haven't sewn on it yet, but it's SO quiet and smooth it may become my favorite treadle. 🕷️

The Gritzner badge is my favorite of them all. 💜

A. Keep celebrating dead Nazis.

B. They're upset that Kirk getting killed didn't gain them more traction.

So First Amendment rights can now be snatched away if you [checks notes] celebrate?

Pretty clear Republicans don't want the government open, because they see this as a way to "save" money - that they'll steal for themselves.

I see that this small-minded puritanical pixie is laser-focused on getting the government reopened and the troops paid.

Rich people do well, especially when poor people aren't doing well. Yay capitalism.

Israel is reportedly forcing 154 Palestinians freed from Israeli prisons as part of the ceasefire deal into exile and deporting them to an unknown country. Experts say the move is a violation of international law.
154 Freed Palestinian Prisoners Reportedly Being Forced Into Exile by Israel
“Exiling Palestinian prisoners is the continuation of captivity by other means,” one legal expert said.

It cost about $250 back in the 1950s. That's $2500-$3000 now. It was pretty top of the line at the time, and it's still coveted today.

It has all its parts plus accessories and original manual. I'm cleaning and lubricating it.

Kenmore 117.841, made for Sears by Gritzner-Kayser (via White, who had little to do with it). Came with a full set of cams 🙌.

Wiring is bad so I won't do more until I address that.

Mom had one - I remember sewing on it. 💜

Thanks for finding it @hesews.bsky.social !

Is that not the cutest little useful feature to the treadle top? I'll give it a new cushion.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

I've been out of town, but now I'm hope and catching up.

Thank you! I'll get it added. It'll probably be November before I get back into the swing of things. October is looking crowded. ☹️

I do this by waking up during procedures despite having warned them than I'm resistant to anesthesia! 😁

Remember what they said - "your body my choice". They aren't just trolling.

Clean and oil your irons. Hear any squeaks or clanks? Nothing.

That's a very early 15. I'd snag it at that price (assuming they're a legit seller). Japanning is cracking. Clean it all gently with good oil, then seal it with a good oil based poly to protect the finish. Oil based poly will stabilize both the Japanning and the decals and prevent rust.

solid model that's plentiful & affordable. Only some latest versions had reverse, & they were electric. Instead of reverse to start the stitching, you just use a very short stitch length. Reverse isn't a deal breaker to me, but ymmv.

A Singer 15 would also be a fantastic choice. Bit heavier.
sewingdeadgirl.bsky.social
Oh wow that's so cool! I mentioned to the husband once that when we move I want room for a loom. 😂

As far as treadles, Singer or otherwise, your life will be a little easier if it uses standard class 15 needles & CL15 or CL66 bobbins, as they're still made today.

A Singer 66 would be a good

I do that, too. Depends on the project. I have many old sewing machines just because I love old machines, and that's ok, too. But I will try to enable others when I can. 😉
