By a 2 to 1 margin, Americans say Trump has gone too far in trying to expand the power of the presidency and lay off government workers. And by large margins, they say he has gone too far in sending troops into cities, attacking universities and ending DEI programs.
3 in 5 Americans disapprove of Trump's job performance, the highest level since after the Jan. 6 attack. Americans disapprove even of his handling of issues historically favorable to him like immigration, crime and the economy. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...
Voters divided on midterms despite broad Trump disapproval, poll finds
Most Americans disapprove the president’s handling of top issues, and a majority say he has gone too far in exercising his powers.

It's easy for some of you to just never use LLMs and just criticize people who do. I would like to be in that situation. But here I am, with my moderator volunteers, assessing hundreds of papers submitted to @socarxiv.bsky.social, trying to decide how to fairly judge whether to accept them. /1

“.. Democrats lead Republicans in the fight for Congress by 8 points, 50%-42%, the largest lead for either party on the congressional ballot in the NBC News poll since the 2018 midterms.

SecDef announcing another illegal strike in the Caribbean against “narco-terrorists.”

Says the Pentagon will treat these alleged drug smugglers “EXACTLY how we treated Al-Qaeda.”

I can think of a few relevant differences between the two, eg 9/11, etc.
Pisteet sille tyypille Trumpin lähipiirissä, joka ujuttaa näitä äärimmäisen ironisia kirjallisia referenssejä hänen juttuihinsa.

Briteissä käydessäänhän presidentti kehui puheessaan Orwellia. Orwellia. Oikeasti.
I would also suggest organizing a general strike.
This shows that there are pressure points that can make GOP senators and representatives break with MAGA.
In votes over the past 2 days the Senate has voted to repeal Trump's tariffs on Brazil and Canada. It's a remarkable rebuke of Trump, a sign of growing discontent inside the GOP.

Not at all scary thought. Not at all.
Q: What did you mean when you said you're prepared to send 'more than the National Guard' into American cities?

TRUMP: if I want to enact a certain act, I'd be allowed to do whatever I want. The courts wouldn't get involved. Nobody would. I could send Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines -anybody I want

Bullshit as U.S. government policy. This is the punchline from my Feb 2025 lecture. If you’re interested in understanding more about how we got here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjiG...

It ends with a call to action to rage against the bullshit machine.
The term has a long history going back to some Dewey's of hand remark. However it cannot be replacement for the basics – you need the basics.

I'm not a fan of focusing on testing, it seems mostly to backfire. But back to basics, that I'm all for!
I could not agree more–although, as a humanist, I would add to the list (rhetorical) psychology, art and technical subjects (for anyone without basic understanding of how objective world works has no idea about causation)

But it's the term that we are stuck with (thanks to some well meaning people)

It's strange thing that it is not discussed.

Like I mentioned earlier, I'm currently trying to build a project on the relationship between AI/LLM and critical thinking, esp. on impact on society.

This is an excellent example of what people have difficulty in understanding about these systems.
I'm sure you could make a stochastic process that can mimic counting much better

Problem is that LLM:s treat mathematical calculations as pieces of language rather than as relations between numbers. Thus it will, instead of an actual calculation, produce somehting just *looking like* a calculation

LLMs cannot count? Hmm.. maybe that's because - just hear me out - counting is not a stochastic process. Neither is thinking, btw. AI (the "I" part of it) is the biggest hoax of our time.

Language models are terrible at counting (part 12381...)

It's concerning how many workflows/copilots etc. these tools are now creeping into, despite making small numerical errors all over the place (which a causal eye might not catch).

Below from GPT-5 and Sonnet-4.5:
Drug cartels are more akin to business than to terrorists.

They are mostly just interested in making money – and the route to get rid of them would be to make their business unprofitable.
