All the world is a narrow bridge, and the important thing is to not be afraid.

I used to keep the gems secure.

After the Rubygems drama, I felt frustrated that I can’t escape evil people trying to dominate my life.

I found myself mourning the future I thought we would have; but also hopeful that it’s not too late to start choosing kindness.

The events of the past week have still been really hard for me to process.

The only way I can describe it is a nasty breakup of a decade-long relationship.

I know people in the community are (rightfully) upset. I just ask that you remember individuals were directly hurt too.

This is, at best, an extreme mischaracterization of what’s happened over the past week.

As a member of the rubygems team for over a decade, Ruby Central’s actions happened without discussion with the maintainers team. Afterwords, the entire team spoke out against what had happened.

Today I’ll be mourning what’s happened to projects I have poured a third of my life into.
Hey, #ruby folks! I've been one of the #RubyGems maintainers for the last decade.

Ruby Central has forcefully taken control of the RubyGems organization on GitHub, the `rubygems-update` and `bundler` gems on rubygems[.]org, and more.

Today is my last day working full-time on RubyGems. While being able to focus on securing the Ruby packaging ecosystem has been a dream job, the time has come for me to move on from Ruby Central. I’ll still be maintaining RubyGems/Bundler/RubyGems.org, just not as my day job.

For a tech conference in the US in 2025, what percentage of speakers from the CfP would you expect to be women? At what point would you be uncomfortable with that number being too low?

Is 6/49 CfP speakers being women a red flag to you?

My views are my own, and clearly not those of my employer but: it sure doesn't feel great to be told to be excited about the latest headliner for our organization's conference. Feels really gross, in fact.

A poem

Today I witnessed a miracle
A short ride from the most evil place on earth
Grounds forever stained with blood and tears and horror
There still stands a building
Yes, there is a cemetery outside
Yes, the cemetery has graves
Yes, the cemetery carries the whispers of our foreparents
