..put preference bounds around the target. Everyone understands what is flat ( ie balanced) and then you understand where in the spectrum there is too much or too little energy.
Most likely. Hard to remember and I have trouble visually translating raw curves to DF subtracted curves. Not a fan of this method. If you want to make it easier to understand for readers plot the difference between your 1 db/octave target and but bounds around that.
Good to see version 2 is much improved. Version 1 had the dubious honor of being the low anchor in our research, reliably producing sound quality scores in the 10-30 percentile. Does Version 1 fall outside your preference bounds?
The new books finally arrived from the publisher
Went for a short ride today on my new Canyon after charging the rear derailleur battery which was dead and installing the latest firmware.
You could certainly fill a book but how many copies would you sell? Is there a wide enough audience?
I was fortunate enough to be presented the Richard Heyser MemorialLecture Award by his widow Amy who attended the lecture.
It’s amazing that everyone has a copy except me.
The AES Heyser lecture is behind me and one more talk tomorrow at 3;30 pm on some headphone research
Arrived at the Hyatt Hotel Long Beach where the AES convention begins tomorrow. Not sure if I want to attend indoor lectures or drink Margaritas by the pool? It’s like a resort here.
It sent me measurements with and without insertion that suggested the device had little effect on sound measured at DRP. And it seemed to stay in place.
Writing acoustic books is not recommended way to make a living. You can make more in an hour as a consultant than what you earn in a year from the book. If the book helps gets you get more consulting gigs then it might make financial sense.
konstantin sent me the details and we ordered the parts and made them.
To be honest I don’t think it really matters. Buy it whenever you get the best deal.

They induce constipation by example. Good time to use the bathroom
Thanks. The differences in bass and treble between settings are quite stark.
What makes you think the Kali headphone was supposed to be tuned to Harman in its Studio mode in your review?

Why waste more time studying preferred target curves when these effects are the one that need to be addressed. What good is a target curve is it cannot be reliably produced for every listener? Of course some of the segmentation effects are related to taste and hearing loss which isn't shown here.
Above left is an open canal microphone before a Noire XO headphone is placed on several individual ears. Right are the frequency response variations of the headphone measured on the individuals. Most of these differences are larger than different proposed target curves...which begs the question...
