Arguably the best art I have on here from this year.

Just unlocked my Devil Trigger in Silent Hill f... O_O

No, that is quite the opposite of what I am saying. I am talking about the difference between creating art that is a statement of intent and drawing familiar characters as safe escapism. One advances one's voice; the other is a retreat into a padded cell masquerading as muted comfort.

Man, when I see stuff like this, I miss Ontario.

Although, on the topic of fan art, I think if you are truly a fan of something, if it truly moved you, that will be reflected in your fan art. But I think a lot of people who do fan art are just piggybacking on what is trending.

OC storytelling is largely uninteresting to me. It's surface level. Even you described the second artwork as "robot lady," but maybe she is a metaphor for our plugged-in lives caught in the cables of interconnected isolation. Or maybe she is my protest against AI slowly killing digital art...

They're all stunning, but that's not really the point. It's part of the intent, but atmosphere, the interplay of lines, posing that puts grace before sensuality--these are the things that interest me; not their names or their backstories.

I’m not talking about fan art, but you’ve somewhat hit upon something adjacent to my point. It feels like most of the online art community is siloed to OCs or fan art. Where is the space for art that is more nuanced? This is also something I am dissatisfied with.

For what it's worth, here are a few of my artworks I am more fond of. I'm not saying I'm not proud of my OC artwork, but these are the ones that I think, "Hell yeah. I did that!" These feel more representative of my "self" whereas my OC artwork feels more preformative in some sense.

This is an ongoing point of consideration for me. It's hard to deny my OCs when they bring in far more attention than any of the art I feel has teeth. But it is what it is. I'm not bitching, per say. It's just something I'm still figuring out.

Honestly, I'm growing tired of drawing OCs when I'm drawing for me. Somewhere along the way, something changed. I don't think it was the art; I think it was me. My sensibilities. Changed is maybe not the right word. Reverted? Maybe refined. Maybe a combination of those two words.

Kinda crazy the dude's art looking like that in an age before digital art was even a thing. Dude died in '84 but his art looks like it came out yesterday. Just wild...

I feel like my art style is accidental Patrick Nagel, but that's not necessarily a bad thing since my brain is stuck on "90s cool" mode 24/7. Frankly, I should lean into it more.

Yeah, I miss those couch co-op days too. L4D was my big jam in that era, but that was over Xbox Live with a girl from work, her bro, and some train engineer from Pennsylvania we met online. I've been enjoying BL4 so far tho! I think it's the only FPS game I've truly enjoyed in a good while tbh.

We still make art over here too. Just been focused on a few commissions lately. But I am working on a Halloween piece too. Preview:

Also, wtf, your art is cool. :)

I'm glad someone noticed. :)

LOL! I don't think "they" have to do anything cuz it's not an official term by any stretch. In my experience, it is mostly used by surface level fans or casual players who genuinely don't realize Bloodborne is From's fourth outing; and that's not considering early copycats either.

It's worse than that. It contributes nothing new to the formula beyond faster combat. It's a fantastic game, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't operate in the same way that Super Metroid and SotN's exploration mechanics converged to create a new genre.

I hate the term Soulsborne. Soulsborne is for sycophants and products of incest. Souls-like is the correct term. Unless you'd prefer Dragon's Souls so that we can give Dragon's Dogma due credit for its open world contribution to Elden Ring. I'm being facetious, but Soulsborne truly is a stupid word.
