either way it stems from the fact that they don't want to confront their racist beliefs/actions/biases because their ego comes first. they don't want to change, and don't think they need to. so, in this way, they do not have to meaningfully address it, thus preserving their feewings

long answer: there's a disconnect when it's coming from another white person, either they can dismiss another white person for "not knowing what they're talking about" or hearing it from another white person means they can feel less guilty.
