I've got a Trippy Treats Fruited Sour with Pink Starburst from Beer Tree Brew (Johnson City NY). It's got the fruit-smoothie vibe, but the center of the fruitiness has a strange but good nutty-pithy flavor that I can’t quite put my finger on. I'm respecting its uniqueness! #BeerSky #BskyBeer

The holiday fun continues with Chocolate Peppermint Stout (9.2% ABV) from Hardywood Park Craft Brewery (Richmond, VA). The flavors are pretty assertive, and I'm OK with that part, but it relies too much on sweetness (a kind of "sweet mint" vibe) when it doesn't really need to. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

The igniter on my grill was frozen stuck, so I lit it manually. Ha! And with dinner, I'm having a Zazen DIPA from Hudson Valley Brewery (Beacon, NY). Although it's 9% ABV, its deceptive daintiness strikes you, with candied orange peel and floral over just enough earthiness. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

Here's the other beer my friend in CA mailed me in the "syrup" box: Santa's Little Helper Imperial Stout (Pizza Port Brewing Co.; Carlsbad, CA). Chocolate, coffee, toffee, vanilla, yes, but am I sensing a tinge of peppermint? 10% ABV and really hit the spot on this frigid day. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

Today I've got a Tannen Zäpfle from Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus (Grafenhausen-Rothaus, Germany). This is a very nice German pilsner with a certain gumminess or sappiness at its center. It’s Rothaus’ flagship brew. I’ve seen it around a lot but had never actually tried it. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

I've got Curieux Bourbon Barrel-Aged Golden Ale from Allagash Brewing Company (Portland ME). It's not unlike a Belgian, but the other flavors that strike me are honeylike and bitter/metallic. It defies categorization for me, and I'm still kinda figuring out what I think of it. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

Here's an American IPA I haven't had in a long time: A Year With Dr. Nandu (Aeronaut Brewing Company; Lynn, MA). The piney-citrusiness is there, and it's not super-bitter, but the nature of its center is interesting - it's almost as if there's another grain like millet in there. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

My friend in California stealthily mailed me two beers that I wouldn't likely see here in a "syrup" box, and tonight I've got the Alesmith (San Diego) Barrel-Aged Speedway Stout. It's just syrupy enough, but its balance is so good I guessed it was 9% ABV when it's really 14.78%! #BeerSky #BskyBeer

Just a terrific brew this evening: Three Philosophers Quadrupel Ale from Brewery Ommegang (Cooperstown, N.Y.) It's a Belgian blended with kriek, and the balance is outstanding. It's not a "holiday" brew per se, but it easily slides into that role, and no component is overdone. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

I walked to/from my voice lesson (temp 24°F), so now I'm ready for a cold-weather brew: Hungry Like The Wolf Chocolate Orange Milk Stout (Lamplighter Brewing Co.; Cambridge, MA). I can’t say I’ve had this flavor combo before, but they're at the right level, so it’s quite good. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

I've got a Fallen Flag DDH Hazy IPA from Narrow Gauge Brewing Co. (Florissant, MO). New brewery to me, and I am impressed, because here is a brewery from outside NE/NY that actually GETS how to make a proper NEIPA. The fruitiness is fresh, and it's got a nice earthy component. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

Not as cold in Boston today, so I'm taking a break from the holiday brews with a Crispy Boom IPA (Lord Hobo Brewing Co.; Woburn MA). This is an easygoing (6% ABV) West Coast-style IPA, but not overly bitter. Tasty, simple, and refreshing, and that's kinda what I needed today! #BeerSky #BskyBeer

After a brisk walk, settling down with Snow On The Maple Tree Imperial Stout (11% ABV) from Clown Shoes Beer (Boston MA and Windsor VT). The maple-stout part is good, but the barrel-aged part could use a bit more depth and complexity. Not quite at the level of a Founders KBS. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

Pretty cold today in Boston, so let's warm up with a Black Chocolate Stout (10% ABV) by Brooklyn Brewery. Dense and syrupy, and the chocolate has that semi-sweet chips bitterness. Just enough booziness, too. Very nice dessert after eggs, hash browns, and fake bacon for dinner! #BeerSky #BskyBeer

An atypical but really nice holiday brew here with Ski House Winter White Ale from Allagash Brewing Co. (Portland ME). The first sip says Belgian, but then ... there's other stuff going on here: citrus, spice, ginger. It's another great value from the 21st largest U.S. brewery. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

I know I just said I had an uncomplicated Other Half beer two days ago, but this one is even less so! It's Big Citra Vibes DDH IPA, with straight-ahead fruitiness ("lychee and orange", they say), and not much of an undercurrent of anything else, though it is very fresh-tasting.  #BeerSky #BskyBeer

Tonight it's a Blizzard of Hops Winter IPA from Tröegs Independent Brewing (Hershey PA). Despite the name, it's not a stereotypical hop bomb, but rather I feel like the malt and the hops do a good job of working together as equals. Another good but inexpensive one from Tröegs. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

I have a Parquet Floors DDH IPA from Other Half Brewing Co. (Brooklyn, NY). It's a good NEIPA, but it is very light on both ends: at the front is mostly grapefruit, the center is pretty creamy, and the grassiness at the back end is mild. One of OH's most uncomplicated brews. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

I’ve opened a Wee Heavy from Belhaven Brewery (Dunbar, Scotland). They call it “a rich, dense, complex beer, with notes of dried fruit and candied peel; it’s like Christmas cake in a glass.” True, but the malt comes through nicely as well. Very good "quiet snowy evening" beer. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

I’m having a Pitcher Of Nectar American IPA from Tilted Barn Brewery (Exeter, RI). It "features Nectaron (and Dolcita) hops, Nectar yeast, honey malt, and is lightly fruited with nectarines and peaches”. The best word to use here is “pleasant”, because it is undeniably that. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

Here's Prospect IIPA from Foley Brothers Brewing (Brandon VT), and it keeps up with Vermont’s sometimes-penchant for making not-New-England IPAs. It has the requisite bitterness for a West-Coaster, but I’d say it’s a little maltier than some. It’s 9%, so it’s not messing around. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

Go-to classic right here with KBS, The Original Imperial Stout from Founders Brewing Co. (Grand Rapids MI). Vanilla, butterscotch, caramel, bourbon, coffee, it’s like you name it, it’s in there. I gotta go clean my bathroom, and this is definitely going to make that less awful. #BeerSky #BskyBeer

Here's Winter Woods IPA from True North Ale Co. (Ipswich MA). This captures the spruce tips’ flavor really well, and it’s fragrant in other ways, too, like a Christmas wreath. I've long appreciated the few beers with pine intentionally added, but this is an especially nice job. #BskyBeer #BeerSky

Tonight's dinner beer is a Good Good Things DIPA (LongLive Beerworks; Boston MA). We have a tropical vibe for the fruity component, and as is typical of LongLive, we have a prominent herbal/vegetal cellulosic foundation that is not unlike cardstock, and I say that in a good way! #BeerSky #BskyBeer
