Scottish Woodlands offered a 'voluntary' Environmental Impact Assessment on Warblaw because of the 'complexity of the site and level of issues raised'.
Many more issues were raised at scoping meeting.
Scottish Forestry must not grant permission.

This is what 330 hectares of Spruce plantation looks like, on the SW slopes of Warblaw. We are fighting a proposal to plant another 300 hectares of conifers on the other side of this small hill.

REVEALED: only 5% of Forestry Commission grants for woodland creation have been spent on the natural regeneration of trees, while the remaining 95% is spent on tree planting.

The government needs to change the rules.

My FOI request & comment in the Guardian:

Government ‘failing to support natural regeneration of trees in England’
Campaigners say targets for woodland creation are unlikely to be met because 95% of grants are for planting

Warblaw Hill is part of Langholm, which is why we are objecting to commercial forestry here. We don't want Sitka Spruce plantations on our doorstep.

I think there are 3 male cuckoos on my regular walk this year (though cuckoos are movey-around things). There are certainly 2. This one has a balanced song, with a good cuck and a good oo. The one half a mile upriver has a respectable cuck but his oo is appalling. I almost want to send him back.

83% of the British public wants the government to do MORE to tackle the climate crisis

Remember that when you hear Farage and Badenoch opposing net zero and claiming to be tribunes of the people - they’re really just doing the fossil fuel industry’s bidding

‘Spiral of silence’: climate action is very popular, so why don’t people realise it?
Researchers find 89% of people around the world want more to be done, but mistakenly assume their peers do not

Only about 3 or 4 years ago, a deathly silent sitka plantation was clear felled here. Now it's thick with wild native trees, NONE of which was planted. It's already heaving with insects + birds, and will keep getting better if left alone.

THIS is how we should be bringing our forests back.

What is a Barn Owl home range? 🦉🏠🌳
It's the area a Barn Owl uses for hunting, roosting & breeding. Barn Owls are non-territorial & their home ranges are huge - expanding up to 5000 hectares in winter, which is more than 7000 football pitches!⚽
