So I guess we're all doing this, eh?

Hello to everyone newly here (or who has newly found me) and please bear with me while I get lists set up so I can actually figure out how to keep up with everyone! 😅

In the mean time, I'll try to bring the birds and open source docs content!
An excellent read about maintaining open-source projects. Covers the high and lows, including many difficult topics, with care and thoughtfulness.
What They Don't Tell You About Maintaining an Open Source Project
i built kaneo.app - an open source, self-hosted kanban board. turns out shipping code is the easy part. here's what maintaining it actually looks like.

Diligently did my homework, but a last-minute alpha Astro release pulled me away from the live chat itself.

Does it count for something that I stopped and bought a domain while reading the first 2 chapters? 😂
Today was Week One of the #OvercommittedBookClub for the book Writing for Developers! This week we read Chapters 1 + 2

We are adding the discussion questions as replies here in case you would also like to participate. Feel free to participate even if you haven't read the book!

I cannot imagine how many people are going to be harassed at the airport this week because of this article alone.

It will likely cause abuse for many ambulatory wheelchair users or has anyone with a non apparent disability.

It’s completely unacceptable actively harmful rhetoric

You know what would be cool? If some of these guys tried to replace the internet with a simple-answers machine where they control what's inside, how you access it, and what it's allowed to say. I can't imagine any problems with that! Maybe we should use their output to build all future software?
The 6 richest men in the world are all Trump allies.

They control your algorithms and data on X, TikTok, Twitch, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Threads, and YouTube.

Just in case you’re wondering why more isn’t done to stop right-wing bots and misinformation on social media.

Really looking forward to this, starting this week!

You're not too late! You don't even need to have started reading yet! Just join and chat about writing for developers!

(Personally curious to see if there's a Team BLAHG vs Team DAWKS split in representation. I might need reinforcements...)
Do you write blog posts, documentation, or anything for software engineers? Do you want to?

When we were in Europe during the World Series, I had to turn off every notification on my phone (looking at you, 2015 Canadian Tire marketing email that spoiled a post-season series win when we were in Prague).

Slowly re-figuring out notification life, because WHAT IF BO BICHETTE?!!??! #BlueJays

Totally remember this commercial. Still delightful.
This commercial for French's Mustard from 1987 is equal parts charming and also kinda unsettling, but what strikes me is the work that went into the absolutely delightful puppetry and practical effects for a *mustard commercial*!! Imagine that today??

The lack of nursing rooms at conference is a contributing factor..imo #blogvent

Do you need to be more like Astro? Then you need Yan.
👋 I'm looking for a full-time software/DX engineer role.

Lazy Sundays are for updating to @astro.build Starlight v0.37! 🌟

Fixed some typos and outdated links on my site while I was also there to refresh/downplay the old Gitpod (RIP) content.

Preparing the November blog post and newsletter, and it's truly an embarrassment of riches this month.

Gonna have to call this the "Oops! All adopters!" edition.

Too many big names are now using Astro/Starlight! My little call out section is meant for *maybe* four websites, tops! 😂

The Dictionary of Canadianisms project at UBC shows it as specifically an Ontarioism
