Redownloaded Ever Crisis on Steam to give it another shot. Why did they make the logo Sephiroth

"Oh they added Sephiroth to the logo? That sounds pretty cool" No Sephiroth *IS* the logo

I think I love Ethan Winters so much for the same reason I love Zack Fair because he's just a regular guy thrown into all this fantasy BS reacting to eldritch horrors beyond his comprehension except instead of Sephiroth being your coworker your best friend is Chris Redfield

Now that I've played all the numbered games (still gotta play the original versions of 1-3 tho) I made a tier list of all the Resident Evil games I've played :D yes I do like 3's remake that much

It legitimately made me scream at one point LOL it's very scary

Last night I also finished Resident Evil Village: Shadows of Rose!

Very good epilogue to the main game and most likely conclusion to the Winters family storyline. I just wanted some sort of closure after the main game's story and this DLC delivered.

Last night I finished Resident Evil Village.

I love this game. It takes the gameplay of RE7 and puts it in a location reminiscent of RE4 that still manages to be terrifying the whole way through. I love it just as much as if not more than 7.

I have no idea how 9 will connect to it, it might not at all, but whether it does or not I'm really excited to see how the series continues. The Ethan Winters duology were fantastic games and I'm very happy I've finally played them.

Overall, I've gotta say, this might be my third favorite in the series behind 4's remake and 7. I really loved Resident Evil Village from beginning to end and I'm shocked I don't hear more people talk about it. I think it deserves to be talked about so much more.

It doesn't bother me personally though. This game's story and characters are more than enough to separate the two in my mind. Similar gameplay and exploration just make me feel more at home with it, and even then this game still scared the absolute pants off of me numerous times.

This does make Resident Evil 4's remake feel a little redundant in retrospect though. RE4R is my favorite game in this franchise, sure, but if Village released just two years before it I have to wonder if it made 4's remake feel lesser to some. Or if 4's remake did that to this.
sammehnetta.bsky.social
It just feels kind of jarring because I didn't feel this way with 7 compared to RE1 despite it basically having that game's whole formula and DNA. Could this just be because I've played multiple versions of RE4 multiple times and not RE1? I dunno.

I can understand why this would be a negative for some. A lot of the reasons I loved this game, even stuff I haven't talked about like exploration, really feel like RE4 almost to a fault. I don't think this knocks the game down for me, but it is very apparent.
sammehnetta.bsky.social
I don't know if this is a major issue for me personally, but I will acknowledge that it is very difficult to talk about this game without comparing it to RE4. I feel like it still has a lot that gives it its own identity, but it really does feel like RE4-2.

Lady Dimitrescu and Heisenberg steal the show in that regard. Both have fantastic performances and command your presence during their segments. Angie and Moreau feel a little undercooked but they still feel like they have stuff going on. Miranda was kind of whatever, though.
sammehnetta.bsky.social
In general the narrative and characters in this one feel so much more fleshed out. I loved the Baker Family in 7 but outside of their personalities they weren't much else. This game has a whole group of villains who felt like they had more going for them.
sammehnetta.bsky.social
I love how the more games RE protagonists go through the more done they are with everything in this world. Wasn't a fan of it with Leon in RE6 but it seems like everyone is going through it now and in retrospect it's made me like that aspect of him in RE6 more.
sammehnetta.bsky.social
Everything feels so personal to Ethan here, who I think got a major improvement to his character and personality. In 7 I thought he was unintentionally comical with how much or how little he reacted to things, but here he feels like an actual character.
sammehnetta.bsky.social
In terms of story I feel like this might be my favorite in the series. I don't think I've ever been invested in seeing how a story in this series would play out but in this one I was wanting answers for the whole playthrough. This game knows how to keep you wanting more.
sammehnetta.bsky.social
Feel like I don't really need to talk about the gameplay much because it is basically RE7 again but with RE4's inventory and shop systems. I liked RE7's gameplay a lot so I like Village's a lot right out the gate, but the added elements do make it stand out in a good way.
sammehnetta.bsky.social
I feel like Angie and Moreau's segments should've switched places, if only to balance out the horror elements for more of the game. It's not as scary overall as 7 but its highs are just as terrifying if not more so.
sammehnetta.bsky.social
I feel like the game peaks in terms of horror a little too early, House Beneviento legitimately made me put the game down for a few days (before I even got to That mind you), but after that it never really reaches that same high.
sammehnetta.bsky.social
Village feels like the perfect blend of RE7's horror and RE4 and beyond's over the top action and moments. It always has a horror tone throughout the entire game with the insane moments and characters that made me love RE4 without going too far into RE6 territory.
sammehnetta.bsky.social
Rather than keeping 7's vibe with the creepy mansion, Village takes place in. Well. A village. This does wonders to separate it from its predecessor as it feels like its own unique experience while also keeping what made 7 an amazing game in its gameplay and tone.
sammehnetta.bsky.social
I didn't know what to expect going into this one. I've barely ever heard anyone talk about Village, especially compared to how much I've heard talk about 7. I was expecting a follow-up to Ethan Winters' story, which I got. I never expected it would also be Resident Evil 4-2.
