@samanthalf.bsky.social do make sure they have a safety clasp that will break open under pressure though (much like with a cat's collar).

I was prepared for the big girl to be jealous of the baby but on the whole it's gone swimmingly.

I wasn't prepared for the baby to be jealous of the big girl. Unfortunately he got very cross with us when I was cuddling her and stonp-crawled up and. Well.

He bit her on the bum.

I'm still on Christmas presents. If you have a small person in need of a stocking filler, get them a lanyard. Big girl got one at a police-themed party and she absolutely loves it,uses it for lots of imaginative play. I'd say probably for the under-8s who still love everyday, being a grown up vibes.

Small boy owners! Any ideas for a small gift for a soon to be 7 year old boy? Unfortunately I don't really know him but he's going to become a tenuous relative by marriage soon so it would be nice to give him a little something even if it's generic.

(not his marriage, you understand, his mum)

Do I want a digital preservation job in Saudi Arabia? Probably not, I think. Quite a long commute and I don't do well in heat.

My five year old has not stopped talking to even breathe since she got home from school.

I'm not even sure she stopped while eating.

Inside her head must be just fireworks going off at random.

Due to someone* putting things in the freezer without labelling them, we're having chilli with pasta and garlic bread for tea.

*I can tell you it wasn't me and I'm pretty sure it wasn't the baby.

Why is the entire internet trying to get me to cut up oranges* and bake them** and hang them up in my house*** and saying it's sustainable?

You know what's sustainable? The Christmas decorations I already own. Not baked.

*international shipping
**unnecessary power use

Oh dear. Doing train puns on the family group chat and I said "don't get your pantographs in a twist"

And it does not seem that anyone else knows what a pantograph is, and I only do because I used to work with an academic who was a world expert in them, and this is the curse of the librarian.

Whilst I remember, we ended up with this version of the Illiad and Odyssey: www.worldofbooks.com/en-gb/produc...

It is just right for age 5. Thank you for everyone's help! I've got got a further list for later, and we're currently looking at one of the more teenage graphic novels from the library.
The Iliad and the Odyssey
Thrilling comic-strip action, with monsters, mighty heroes and even mightier gods and goddesses. The Iliad tells the story of the war between Greeks and Trojans; the love between Helena and Paris; Ach...

I bought a massive tin of Swedish biscuits from Costco because I wanted the tin for craft things and because a passing chap said they were amazing.

Unfortunately they are amazing. Small, thin, crunchy rounds of, I think, cardamom and cinnamon? Nutmeg?

They are amazing.

Getting very very sick of long journeys that end with people who can't drive lurching around the M25 in Defenders like zombies that want to eat Micras and Fiat 500s for breakfast.

Plus bikers: my god leave yourself a bit of space. I swear one gave themselves less than a foot of space overtaking me.

Due to some building work we are having to stay at a holiday lodge close to my in laws.

I booked the cheapest nearest thing that had enough space for us to have two bedrooms for children storage. Couldn't get a caravan bc couldn't fit cot.

Anyway I'm having a sauna in a lodge bigger than my house.
