So-called party of law and order deeply confused as to what a barrister actually does.

In other news, every criminal defence practitioner is now complicit in their client's crimes.
Fine Gael going full attack, not bothering to let their proxies do it anymore. #aras25

I am getting very fed up with this point coming up in the Áras race. Barristers are not solicitors. If you hold yourself out as being competent to practice a certain area of law, you don't get to pick and choose your clients. You take the work as it comes to you.

Freedom of expression in the context of political speech is sort of a research interest of mine, so let me tell you that what's happening in the UK is ridiculous, bonkers, and an egregious human rights violation.

Starmer has backed himself into a corner and ought to be ashamed

No one is allowed to run for president unless I personally, (or better yet, an actual constitutional law expert) have verified they understand what role the president actually plays. No presidency without a 1500 word essay on the consequences of Article 26.

It's a nice nod to ecumenism they they've got Ian Paisley Sr's long lost Italian brother to give the homily.

Solidarity with my former colleagues.

Least said, soonest mended on my behalf. But this was not a great place to work. The staff are hugely talented, and even more rare - they genuinely care deeply about the work. The situation was difficult when I worked there years ago and has not improved at all

The Seanad ballot reveals one of the biggest terfs in the country is a near neighbour.

All the more reason to fly a trans pride flag high. Show her hatred has no place here.

Eoin and I are doing our Christmas Dinner today. I've started gravy preparations at T - 11 hrs.

What makes the Eoin Hayes thing worse (and I say this with egg on my face, having naively voted for him) is that Chris Andrews was consistently a very outspoken pro Palestine voice in the Dáil.

DBS, in our infinite middle class wisdom, axed him for someone as transparent as a brick wall.

How long is polite to wait after a new TD is elected, before you email them begging them not to go into Government with Fine Gael?

Is an hour or two after they're deemed elected sufficient?

An expired litre of oat milk could run for Fine Gael in #DBS and they'd be elected, with the NIMBYs praising the oat milk's approach to tax reliefs for landlords.

I'll call it now. A coalition of FF-FG-SD-Greens-Lab.
Rotating Taoisigh again, and a cabinet position or two each to the rest.

Will collapse by June - particularly if Norma Foley gets to keep Education.

I have a lovely houndstooth wooly coat. I have lovely wide leg houndstooth trousers.

Unfortunately, I have no ability to think about an outfit before I leave the house in it, so now I look like a lovely sheep that's gone to M&S for a 'smart' outfit.

If anyone is wondering what law is like, I've been sent to Dundalk with three trials prepped. They all might get on, and I'll be commuting to Dundalk for the next 6 weeks. Or the judge may choose not to hear any of them, and we'll be "put back in the lists" to next year.

Career milestone: I successfully ran my first bail app last week, and got as positive a result for my client as could be hoped for.

But, this being criminal law, even that was depressing.
