Encampments are communities! It's time for our elected leaders to stop the stigma, stop spreading fear and creating division. Homelessness is a policy failure and it's a policy choice. It's time to hold our leaders to account. Housing is a human right!

Premier Ford was in Barrie for a photo op to help further his and Mayor Nuttall's harmful narrative on PWUD and experiencing homelessness. Residents of this encampment told me neither man stepped foot inside the encampment or spoke with any residents. They used it as a backdrop for their photo op.

#Barrie is under a #StateofEmergency to rid the city of encampments. #RyansHope volunteers were on site today at the Mulcaster Encampment to witness the eviction that was taking place and to offer emotional support to encampment residents during this traumatic situation.

As someone with boots on the ground this greatly concerns me. Crimilization is an ignorant and ineffective solution. It costs far less to house people than to incarcerate them and causes far less harm. Homelessness is a policy choice! 1/2

A injured senior was in need of a wheelchair. She could have received government assistance but it would take months. She needed it NOW! This is where our community came in. We put a request out and within 1 1/2 hours she had a chair!
This is the power of community!
