So if our democracy can’t address this universal human need - healthcare without financial ruin - what use is our democracy? And I think that’s basically 2024 in a nutshell - Democrats just trying to protect their way of doing things, letting Trump capture all the anger that actually delivers votes.

In a democracy responsive to the needs of normal people (i.e. one that made it impossible for you to go bankrupt just because you got sick), you would never see this. But every American agrees our healthcare is terrible, and even Obamacare was basically just giving a bandaid to someone bleeding out

I also thought Harris running on “democracy is at risk” was weak before, but this week really crystallized it for me. Parts of the American experience are so broken that Americans online have more or less unanimously celebrated a healthcare CEO being killed.

Newsom, IMO, almost perfectly embodies why so many people hate the Democratic Party.
Looking at 2028 (assuming we have elections), I’m more convinced than ever that electoral success is contingent on rejecting him and everybody like him. The tent is too big and these are the people to kick out.
