This isn’t only about District Nurses being in clinical roles, it’s about those in strategic roles understanding the VALUE &thinking skills of DNs. Strategy needs to be led by ppl who understand the nuances of delivering clinical care in a domestic environment. @theqicn.bsky.social @rcn.org.uk
District nursing is in a dire state, and the latest report from @nuffieldtrust.org.uk shows a worse than feared collapse in the workforce.

Westminster government’s ambitions to shift care from hospital to community will fail unless the district nursing workforce is rebuilt. ⬇️

This is proactive preventive use of services.

Maybe open referrals from District Nurse / UCR teams who will be able to name the people in their communities who would benefit from CGA type review?
Currently:
1. Reaching out to GP/AHP
2. Triaging general medical referrals so we see older ppl.
3. Extending offer to see appropriate ppl referred to other specialty eg colorectal/cardiology.
4. Great conversation with ENT colleague today. Plans to divert older people referred with 'instability'.2/2
Something about a stitch in time perhaps 🤔
The knock on transferred cost is exactly what keeps poor people poor. But those who run the pot hole budget are only going to be interested in their budget - they don’t pay the NHS costs for the A&E attendance. It’s silo working and blinkered.
To be Fit for the Future (NHS England 2025) delivering prevention, in a digital way, in the community and we’re serious about change, we need to listen to the people already leading it from the ground up. END/ 🧵
Digital systems should fit how we work, not the other way around. Real-time collaboration, less duplication, and fewer delays. That’s how we keep care safe and responsive. 2/ 🧵
I’ve been thinking a lot about how frontline nursing has changed — not just in what we do, but in how we lead. We’re no longer just implementers. We’re assessors, coordinators, advocates — and we need tools that actually support that. 1/ 🧵
I really like these. I hope they develop more. I’d like to see one for leg ulcer care and prevention #TVN and for urethral catheterisation

Really interesting debates and discussions from so many senior leaders across health and social care.
Refreshing to hear people holding each other to account. Haven’t we been having this conversation (hospital to community) for years? What’s stopping us from starting?
@nchctrust.bsky.social awards evening last night.
Loved working with this amazing team - North UCR. We won patient choice, and were finalists for team of the year.

Yes! 🙌 I am hoping to share some of the highlights, and my reflections.
Equal excitement and nervousness about joining the panel for a discussion at #FutureNurse Conference in London on Monday.

Pro: I get to meet @antoniafrost.bsky.social in real life!

Con: I’ll have to introduce myself with a fancy little bio

Tips welcome from any seasoned public speakers
What about those without digital access?

Start of the summer holidays - who’s ready for juggling parenting and work?!

I’m working on a clinical refresher session for nurses identifying rapidly deteriorating conditions ahead of terminal phase - so quiet river thinking time is much needed. #PallCare #NurseSky #DistrictNurse #WorkingMum

I think Andy Cowper is spot on when he suggests the Dash Safety Review conflates avoidable deaths caused by a failing health system with avoidable deaths caused by negligence and/or errors in care. www.gov.uk/government/p...

💙 Today marks 77 years since the foundation of the NHS: a landmark moment in history.

International nurses have made a huge and vital contribution since 1948. This powerful image by Neil Kenlock, captures nurse Olga Grant in 1972.
