I keep thinking that ICE is gonna start fucking with the Philly halal cart guys and that's gonna be the first domino. Like, when they take away the only source of inexpensive lunch, people are gonna stop going to the office, downtown real estate will collapse. Government cuts services follow.

So, Trump says US cities should be a training ground for troops. Hegseth says the rules of engagement are off the table. That the US military is a tool for death and destruction. Do we still live in a free society?

There are a lot of aspiring pundits here that spend their time debating the boundaries of acceptable discourse. One side looks at voters and says "we're going to solve your problems by deporting these immigrants. It will make work pay more and housing cheaper"

She confirms existence of the investigation here, inadvertently acknowledging that a bag with $50k exists. FBI should have property receipts if that's the case. Dumbest spox ever.
Q: Did the president ask the DOJ to close the Homan investigation and does he have to return the $50,000

LEAVITT: Mr. Homan never took the $50,000, so you should get your facts straight ... you had FBI agents going undercover to try and entrap one of the president's top allies and supporters

The real barometer of whether an issue is breaking through is on LinkedIn. Bluesky, twitter, Facebook. It's mostly anonymous, and not tied to anyone's wallet or job. Remember all the corporate diversity statements in 2017? When the VP of SEO at a fortune 500 company starts standing with kimmel...

The funniest thing ever would be Fallon having Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert on the show, and they just do that thing from SNL where they write jokes for each other and read them blind. But all the jokes are about Charlie Kirk, Trump, and their corporate overlords. Cancel Disney Plus.

newrepublic.com/article/1937.... When I lived in South Texas, I remember the local economic development authority spent a lot of effort trying to lure a large call center to the area. I asked the head of that authority if people really wanted these crappy jobs.

The houhis aren't an existential threat. They are an annoyance to global trade. They shot at a few ships. We collapsed entire residential buildings to kill one guy. All in the name of making sure Europe has access to cheap crap from Amazon. US didn't even do this for it's own economic benefit.

Ok guys. It's official. The reciprocal. Tariffs are more smoke and mirrors. Instead of actually levying tariffs, which he said he'd do, trump asked his advisers to look into it. It's mexico and Canada all over again

It's Friday. At about 4:30 eastern today, the Trump admin is going to do something really crazy. The goal is to drive you nuts over the weekend and consume the attention of the media. I don't have any advice on how to respond. I will just say that knowing this might calm your nerves

I suspect USAID is first because it's "foreign aid" and fewer Americans will object. But once the precedent is established, expect unilateral dismantling of domestic institutions too

@peterbakernyt.bsky.social I have another question on the installation of the junior brain trust overseeing the payments system in Treasury. My (limited) understanding of these government computer systems is that they are basically run off of mainframes.

The Democrats messaging on the US Treasury data grab is off base. Two messages: 1) a South African billionaire who gave an apparent Nazi salute has access to all your personal information.

@peterbakernyt.bsky.social I have a question. Is there a formal contract or MOU between the government and DOGE? One that spells out their duties, recordkeeping, and cybersecurity requirements. It seems that Elon is at least opening himself up to massive civil liability if he is firing employees.

I am hearing a lot about mass deportations, but I can't figure out how they started doing it in 4 days? I think it's more likely that the deportations you are hearing about now were started in the Biden administration. Trump is just using military planes now. I could be wrong

@kenwhite.bsky.social so, maybe this question is a little dark. And with the caveat that the Internet isnt real life. But what do you think of the idea that if the UHC shooter is caught alive, a jury will or will not convict him? I feel like the risk that there would be one holdout is non zero.

Is the talent bench in the GOP side really that shallow? The top picks for the cabinet are just people from TV?

Two under-reported aspects of the 2024 political landscape. The vitriol in digital ads that aren't shown frequently. It's flying under the radar. Ads shown in rural areas on connected TV are just not being seen in large cities, but they are absolutely, wildly racist.

This immunity ruling might be the worst thing that could have happened to Trump. The election might stand as as a test of which candidate you want to give immunity from prosecution to. I can't imagine that's the guy recently convicted of a felony, credibly accused of raping E. Jean Carrol.
