This thread is why I’m not ready to give up on social media just yet.
Man, everything is so bleak, anyone got a fun fact or little bit of trivia they want to share

I've read that! I think you'll love it. Truly fascinating, I picked up all sorts of interesting facts from it. I think it got some criticism for being a bit too pro-GDR. Presumably for emphasising the good bits about living there and not focusing on the lack of freedom.

Haha, Eddie Izzard was named in our house as my wife worked out the answer!

Gah, annoyed to not get all the answers in the "unix-like commands" round on University Challenge tonight. I may be wrong, but I thought use of the finger command had fallen out of use. (Shakes fist at Amol Rajan)

Yes!!!

Now, about those ridiculous admin fees...

True. Like the Cavern will frequently provide a local support act or two for a touring band. Not all the headliners bring their support with them. So they are dependent on the venue knowing what acts might complement them.

Thought the pensioners specials was on Wednesdays 😜

There are worse places to be stuck in the rain!

Turning up just for the main act didn't mean you weren't a proper fan of live music, just that maybe you have other commitments too and life is complicated.

Early finishes to combat the vagaries of provincial bus networks helps too!

Plus there were the years when the kids were young where it was impossible to be out for the whole night, not knowing when the main act would be on just made it more complicated than it needed to be.

I'm not sure how widespread the practice is, but some venues now do a double shift, live music early, then clear out for a later club night. Knowing the set times helps with that.

Interesting article this. Personally I'm always looking on social media to find out set times in advance, and usually end up following the artist and support as a result.

If the support look interesting and I know what time they will be on then I'll make an extra effort to get there for them.

And hopefully home before the rain?!

Ooh, that's good to know. I was completely unaware of this films existence until it had been and gone at the cinema, so have added to my iPlayer watch list for later.

Happy birthday to Steve Cropper. Here's a fantastically cool clip of Booker T. & the M.G.'s performing Time Is Tight at Stax Studios. It's taken from a French mini-documentary from 1969, which also features Isaac Hayes, the Memphis Horns etc. Watch it at 📺▶️ youtu.be/ste1KIwjbLE
