My @dadshiftuk.bsky.social / @pregthenscrewed.bsky.social stickers have arrived... not sure my local MP is going to like the naughty language...
4 big yellow stickers that read:

UK Paternity Leave is a MOTHERF**KER.

With the logos for Pregnant Then Screwed, and The Dad Shift.

I bought the book - signing or not - and looking forward to getting stuck in.
Nick Lowles' How to Defeat the Far Right, sits on a shelf alongside; the Age of Bowie by Paul Morley, 1990s in pictures, MAUS by Art Spiegelman, Minority Rule by Ash Sarkar, The Age of Surveillance Capitalism by Shoshana Zuboff, A Dead Cat on your Table by Peter York, and Fight The Power by Chuck D and Yusef Jah.

Jenrick claims he is an "Anglofuturist", @hopenothate.org.uk explains what that means, and who they are. Weirdos and white supremacists mainly:

Nick's 35+ years of fighting fascism, nationalism, racists, and now tackling the outcomes and impacts of Neoliberalism and late stage capitalism cannot be overstated. Thanks for your service, & those who you inspire 🙏🏼

The talking points connected the dots between a mainstream media & political environment which amplifies manufactured culture wars; the funding behind some of the right wing stuff (like growing, imported US Christian Nationalism); & disenfranchisement because of underfunding, austerity & poverty.

A shame no book signing this evening, as @nicklowles.bsky.social whisked off & away from @theobserveruk.bsky.social event because of National Front protesters / lurkers outside the building. A great talk though, from the down to earth, & modest man who founded the @hopenothate.org.uk movement.
John Simpson, Home Affairs correspondent at The Observer talks to Nick Lowles; they are sat in front of a huge bookcase, with indoor plants, signs that read 'On Air' and Nick's new book dotted around the scene.

This message cascaded down, as I attended a Mass with my Catholic wife on Sunday in London, and the priest was VERY strong on anti-migrant xenophobia and racism in the UK, and said it had NO place in Christianity and people who exercise the faith. Which was good to hear spoken so loudly.

Pope Leo says that American bishops need to be more vocal and support migrant communities from being abducted by ICE in US cities

"Important that we as church give a message of hope in the midst of these horrible struggles, what's going on in some cities in the US"

"The church cannot be silent"

In tribute to the recent #FlamingoFest2025 (which I had to watch bit of from afar in the UK), here's a #vaporwave #Cassunday special.

20 colourful cassette tapes arranged on a marble surface, and all are in the vaporwave genre. Some are signed by the artists.

This is a superb doc short, that should be on Netflix or Prime, let alone YouTube. Fantastic production from @diggingthegreats.bsky.social and - for me - the perfect subject matter to explore: #CassetteCulture and the origins of the lowly tape in shaping modern subcultures. #Recommended

Highly recommend this video on why "cassettes aren't making a comeback, they're the foundation of the modern world" from @diggingthegreats.bsky.social, and this is just ep1.

Hat tip to @mflah.bsky.social for the recommend ➿

Life's a bit heavy isn't it?

Today I am feeling this sentiment.

The UK is in many ways still a "hostile environment" for migrants, and in this instance and others, hostile to the point of being discriminatory, opaque (and racist?) towards UK born children of British overseas territory (BOT) migrants.

This is not an anomaly - it’s an echo of the injustices we saw in Windrush.

A UK‑born child denied a British passport and asked to prove her right to NHS care is a stark reminder that UK policy still fails Caribbean communities and basic principles of equality.

#31DaysOfHalloween for the 13th viewing, as a family, we've just just binge watched the first season of Wednesday [2022 -], and are into the S2 now. So some horror adjacent fun.
Wednesday Addams played by Jenna Ortega, lies cross armed inside a coffin. She looks determined - staring at the camera. Thing, the disembodied hand, rests at her top left; clutching the coffine side.

I agree - from the Gaza: Doctors Under Attack documentary that @zeteo.com had to pick up when Beeb shelved it, to the cancelling of comedy like The Mash Report; across swathes of BBC content, it fears progressive output. Maybe drama is the only thing it has going for it now?

Allegations breaking a sweat in that sentence.

I envy people who don't see right leaning bias on BBC Today prog, Newsnight, Politics Live, and News, etc. But I'm not going to argue with randoms on here about it.
Incidentally, @adambienkov.bsky.social has written a great piece on the BBC's anti-left bias, here:
