Here's the actual reality of a bus stop bypass, at any given time, on any given day. No interactions, no danger to pedestrians, VI or otherwise... but my wife, sister-in-law and daughter can independently and safely access local amenities without fear or risk of being crushed to death.
And they could have had a design like this. For free!!
Camden and Islington embarrassing Hackney by doing the necessary to keep people on bikes safe from the main causes of death and injury at junctions. The Pembury Circus scheme should shame all those involved in its implementation.
We did a *magic* thing to our house to dramatically increase its airtightness and make the whole thing worthwhile - www.youtube.com/watch?v=leIK... this took 90min for us and I reckon will pay for itself in about five years.
How does AeroBarrier work?

You reckon MVHR is a bad thing?(assuming that we don't get anywhere near passivhaus standards any time soon)
We airthighted our home and whacked MVHR in the loft - mainly because of proximity to toxic smoke from wood burners on the canal - but the two things combined have reduced our heating bill

Your occasional reminder that opposing #ActiveTravel is a really poor choice of wedge issue to run on.
Yet another election where a noisy online minority against LTNs doesn’t translate to the ballot box.

The three candidates campaigning explicitly to halt and remove the LTN in the Moseley by-election received a combined total of just 11.4% of the vote.
Not only will roads keep getting busier, without a kerbside strategy to actually remove or repurpose parking spaces, Hackney's double-sided car storage streets will keep getting narrower, due to the ever-increasing size of SUVs - already a problem for the 242 bus in King's Park #carspreading
To be fair, Cllr Max Sullivan (who presumably would have a say in this) has been pretty good in the past couple of years - he's even approved a *gasp* protected cycle route. In Westminster! I know!
Imagine the poor civil servants who have to deliver that report to these absolute loons. Will they accept the truth?...probably not? How do you do a good job and still keep your job? Do you lie and make it all seem somehow real so the fantasists at the top don't get angry?
Put a fucking bell on your cat's collar and stop it murdering our precious birds, you absolute weapon
Totally agree on the fake grass, and I do recognise that brevity/editing are needed in journalism! Nonetheless - waiting for the water to come to you seems like a poor strategy for a city to take... Look upstream! Thanks for the reply
"What can we do" para. pretty much ignores what actions could be taken: removing grouse moors from the uplands and filling in drainage ditches, reintroducing trees and other rewilding measures, depaving urban centres to include SUDS and permeable surfaces- All controversial but absolutely necessary
With a fantastic title!
"The appeal of endurance sports isn’t just getting somewhere that it would have been quicker to travel to in a machine. It’s about becoming the sort of person who can run [far] despite the physical toll and hardship. Our efforts may not always change the world, but they often change ourselves."
Oh man I looked at this for ages thinking it was two photos on top of each other🫠
This would, at a stroke, improve our high streets immeasurably.
Getting to the start line of a long distance race (and feeling even somewhat prepared and ready) is already a great achievement! Don't go thinking "cool I'm half way feeling good so might push on a little" I have done this and it hurts. A lot. Take it as easy as you can and enjoy🙂 Good luck!
Do you know who are the people to ask about how the Dutch do parking removal, what narratives are used, how it goes down etc.? Feels like we have to litigate every single space in this country (though perhaps not in Lambeth @rezinachowdhury.bsky.social ?)
Ooh this looks "fun"! On the off chance that I'm feeling fit next year I might have a go on that
My kids have never said "yay!, let's go in the car", whereas they love hopping on the cargo bike
Love this on e-cargo bikes & family life:

“Forgoing a second car may have been the reason we bought it, but it was simply more fun to see my son grinning on the bike.”

“You see the joy that the kids get out of it, the time you get to spend with them … [and] it encourages you to use it more.”
Load and behold: should you opt for an electric cargo bike over a second car?
Cargo ebikes are ideal for the millions of short-distance car trips Australians take every day. Here’s how to make one work for you

I foresee a perma-ring of poor high-viz-clad security trying to hold back the inevitable tide, and cheap crowd control barriers creating some kind of crappy entranceway which only serves to limit the available width for pedestrians
This. If they aren't fucking *looking*, it doesn't matter what radioactive nonsense you're wearing.
What drivers see no matter what you wear:
Time to fire up the crusher!
"Ooh that's got a bit too much garlic in it" - SAID NO ONE EVER
