According to an AI analysis of my posts on Another Site, I am "like a Swiss Army knife that's been left out in the Falklands' harsh weather - rusty, a bit dull, but still trying to be useful"
Not entirely unfair, but it's not just the Falklands weather that's harsh!

I will try to be useful here too

Mark you, if I were to order something online on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, it would be likely to arrive here in January!
There would be a respectable argument that Boxing Day sales are premature depreciation and that only January Sales can be given an imprimatur

When I lived in Brussels some years ago, one shop had a Liquidation *and* a stamped chit in the window vouching its permit for a sale out of season

Colleagues at Falklands Radio are coming to the end of a week during which they have conducted interviews with all 19 candidates, who also had the opportunity to record a speech for broadcast
Three broadcast hustings meetings will also take place next week

Voice jail systems and automated speech recognition systems that do not recognise my accent have become even more annoying since Skype stopped working and I now have to pay the 80p a minute international call charge

If mine is to be believed, it was not giving way to the penguins!

Deeply worrying sight in the corner of the office. Wondering if I can report it as an unattended item and get it blown up?

I am booking accommodation for a forthcoming trip and a leading hotel chain had sent me details of a possibly tempting offer recently … except that its website geo-defaults to the Spanish version and uses an exonym for my location

I am sure it will cope with the loss of the prospective customer

I once had a moan about a mail order on The Other Place company which resulted in a profile view but no action
Subsequent moans didn’t even result in a profile view
I was weighed in the balance and found wanting
(Though I did feel better for getting the moans out of my system)
underrated feature of old twitter was people with a decent following being able to bully brands into acting right

One of the more colourful aspects of a #Falklands election is that mobile polling teams spread out across the #FalklandIslands the day before polling taking ballot boxes out to voters on farms and in smaller settlements
Here are the routes for this election:

But how will you know if you meet your past self from before you came up with the code phrase???
I have a private code phrase known to no one but myself that I will use to verify it's really me if I ever meet my past or future self via time travel.

I am now too frightened to watch the timeshifted version because I don’t think it could possibly happen a second time!

And tune into/log onto Falklands Radio at 7.05am tomorrow for Don’t Come Home Too Soon!
I have had a choice: wait 4 hours for the timeshifted coverage via BFBS or follow a live text
Live text it has been
(It hasn’t got any easier since the days of watching sport on Ceefax)

AP Herbert did an earlier variant on the joke in which the barrister had to ask the solicitor before he could tell the judge
Off to check this out because the past few days on here I’ve increasingly felt like a judge about to ask ‘Who are these Rolling Stones you mention?’
(‘A popular beat combo, m’lud.’)
Thanking Reddit for its service

This morning in the #Falklands Supreme Court, there was a short hearing just before the resumption of a jury trial and the Chief Justice read out a consent order in a JR against the #FalklandIslands Government in which FIG conceded it had breached the claimants’ rights under the Constitution

Even Henry vacuum cleaners have been shrinkflated!!!
I unboxed my new Henry today and I thought it seemed smaller than they used to be … and it turns out to have less power than they used to have too

Is *nothing* sacred?

And, contrary to the BBC’s own news story, it does not rule out showing the programme again (in a different form)
“This programme was not scheduled to be re-broadcast and will not be broadcast again in this form on any BBC platforms.”
“Was” and “in this form” leave wiggle room, even if never used
The specific wording here presumably leaves it open to argue - without at this point having to say so - that an impression of an *indirect* call to action wouldn’t be inaccurate.

I like this, but the twist on it in the Falklands is that - a lot of the time - we are clinging to our knobbly bit on the rock and, as well as trying not to get flung off, we are trying not to get blown away!
Keep posting sky pictures, I like being reminded that we're all piles of carbon screaming through space on a rock and we're all just hanging on and hoping for the best.

The solution already exists:
In the original Casino Royale movie, the name had first been given to the Niven Bond’s successor and was then given to everyone else to confuse SMERSH

Casino Royale was *too much* for one James Bond, so why now limit themselves to one?

The one thing in this I half understood was the route: a points run was mentioned and creative routing used to have perverse incentives … but I didn’t think the schemes still used distance flown rather than money spent
(More than once, I included a dog leg in an itinerary to cross a miles threshold)
Noah Smith is paid in the high six-figures to write a blog read by Americans who believe themselves to be intelligent. Yet, he is both unable to read a sign and also for some reason chose to have a 90 minute layover for a flight that takes 90 minutes.
