Finally got poked and prodded enough by friends to join Bluesky. For those who are interested: I am a midgrade and YA graphic novelist (illustrator/writer) as well as an educator, teaching adults how to make better, awesomer comics over at Kids Comics Unite.
It's hard to raid when you're trying to dig paint out of your eyeballs or wipe off your glasses, and you'd be amazed how hard it is to wash off windshields. It can be, but it requires a trip to the carwash. Lots of them.
NOT. OK.

I keep buckets of paint ready by the door at all times. I will not hesitate to throw paint in their f*cking faces and on their windows.
Yet more overfinished pencils for FIVE WISHES, but this time it's because I'm testing out how I want to portray rain mood in the final inks. Rain is notoriously difficult to draw. I'd like to nail my approach before I commit!

Here's hoping at least you didn't catch con crud! 🤞
Found out the dog was sick by literally stepping in it too. Fun times in parent-land. 🫡
Days where you want to work but kid's sick, dog's sick, and you just spent two hours steam-cleaning vomit out of the rug then cleaning the steamer too.

It's only 9:30 and I'm already ready for it to be bedtime. 🥲
Sometimes it's fun being a little nuts. 🤪
😑 When you have a vision and nothing else will do. 😆
The wheels will actually be in motion when I ink. I don't know what possessed me to draw every single freakin' spoke in pencils. Just because I felt like it, I suppose? And because I hate not knowing what something looks like beneath the blur of a motion line? >_>
Been taking a bit of a social media break lately, but popping in because I'm gearing up to start inking, and I am REALLY looking forward to inking this page in particular. It has been, quite possibly, the trickiest page in this entire book. Because bikes.

I brought it on myself, so no complaints!

Ready for some retro sci-fi odyssey! 🤩
I so get this. 😅

Also carting in all the potted plants at midnight while neighbors stare accusingly through their windows, wondering if it's worth yelling at me about. >_>
I think sometimes you need to address any elephants in the room, especially if the ask is a favor or recommendation. Doesn't need to be heavy-handed, just...casually addressed so they know you aren't blind lol.

Good luck! Follow your instincts. My advice is mine only. Take it with a grain of salt!
As we call 4 seasons in Texas: hot, hotter, hottest, and not-so-hot-maybe. 😆

I love seasons so much, I just wrote a script about them lol. Well, the first installment which is the greatest of all: FALL. 😁
I like it though because it's so quiet. Humans may not hibernate but we sure do slow down and the quiet peace of winters fills me to the brim with undistracted creative energy. I get SO MUCH SH*T DONE in winter.
I am also quite possibly one of the only artists I know who looks forward to winter, but that's because it snows here. Winter is so different when you get snow. ❄️❄️❄️
FALL IS HERE. 😭💖💖💖
I'd try to keep it as succint as possible.
Skipping out this year on everything but MICE. Just. too. tired. 😭
Take the underdog approach, perhaps. Everybody loves a good underdog story. "Look at the incredible journey I've taken" is always a powerful, moving narrative.
So badass it's an ABSOLUTELY.
Lol! We have three! I just needed some quick up-close tread reference. Treads are a pain to draw. 🥲
It's like a drunken toddler tried to draw bicycle spokes from memory. And I think most artists know how well THAT would go.

They let you turn off AI content now, but some stuff still sneaks through.
