I'll be honest with you. If there's one good thing that came out of this god-forsaken apocalypse, it's that I'll never have to drink a cup of Slocum's Joe coffee again. Having to look a Slocum's Joe employee in the eyes, hand them my 28 dollars, and thank them for the stale, acidic rubbish they'd just given me was a fate worse than nuclear hellfire. One star.

Emogene and Magnolia’s smiles both fall, their brows furrowing as they scowl nearly in sync.

“Ew.”

“Pass.”

“He’s really not so bad once you get to know him.” Thea insists, reaching again for the bottle of wine. “And, for the record, the most passionate lover I’ve ever had.”

“You know, that kinda makes sense,” Magnolia admits, her expression softer and more thoughtful. “Soldiers are probably healthier, and he’s got that youthful stamina.” She raises a brow, turning her focus to Emogene. “Might be worth it.”

“Nah,” Emogene belts, reaching out as Thea offers her the wine bottle. “I promise it’s because he’s in love with you. Isn’t he the last of his family line or something? Dude needs a wife. And kids.”

She hums.

“I change my mind. He probably just wants to knock you up.”

Thea shrugs.

“Honestly, I don’t doubt that.”

Thea’s not really one for recklessness, per se, but her assumption that someone’s on the same page as her has gotten her into hot water. She tried to negotiate Winlock and Barnes leaving Mac alone, and barely escaped a grenade blast for her trouble.
