The people who were yelling earlier about every incumbent needing to face a primary challenger seem to suddenly not want a robust contest at all.

The funny thing is that they convinced me that contested primaries are good and I see no reason to change my mind.

I see your point and I disagree. If age is an issue for voters, she won’t win the nomination. Even if it isn’t, there are several people running and Platner has an opportunity to prove he can win.

I hope so. But I’m constantly reminded that the average Dem voter is far more moderate than I am. And I think that while many would agree that politicians should be younger, when it comes to specific people, they tend to put that fairly far down on their priority list.

If Sanders can encourage people to run, then so can anyone else. That’s politics! The “no one wants an old moderate” is best proved at the polls.

I have been convinced that the best thing for Dems are to have primaries. I think that holds regardless of who announces their candidacy first. Platner seems like a good candidate and defeating a popular older legislator is a good way to prove he can unseat Collins.
