This dark time should wake us up to the bankruptcy of the corporate Democratic Party. It should mark the birth of the people’s Democratic Party. Zohran Mamdani and others like him are its future. Some thoughts...

Yes. My concern as well is that freedom
of religion (expressed as tolerance) is not even aspirational. Conformity basically prepares the way for fascism. External violence, war, has always been identifier for fascism. The conformity of our politicians around war has been long concerning.
Of course, I realize you are referring to the state embracing a specific religion, but even that doesn’t not imply fascism necessarily. When the state aggressively asserts a religious doctrine and punishes those who don’t follow, that is a tripwire for a social explosion.
There never has been a separation. Religion plays a role in politics everywhere. Christian leaders were instrumental in the Civil Rights Movement and all anti-war movements, but when Christians (or Israelis or Hindutva Hindus, or anyone) turn to fascism, it’s time to resist with all of our energy.
The No Kings protest against Trump by 7 million people proves that we are not violent and can discipline ourselves, despite MAGA’s provocations. Now, we must begin to confront them directly and bring about the fall of the Trump regime.

None of this shit is inevitable. I suspect that the intense local pushback against these deployments in other cities—and the broad popularity of that pushback—helped cause this u-turn. So, fuck yeah, and let's turn it up.

Food banks were already struggling to keep with demand. Then, Trump slashed $1 billion from crucial USDA programs supporting them.

Now, thanks to his shutdown, millions of Americans in at least 25 states will lose access to food stamps on November 1st.

The perfect storm of cruelty.
