He Walked by Night is a great, LAPD procedural (a template for the TV series Dragnet — Jack Webb even has a role). A creepy villain, fantastic John Alton cinematography, and a script free of hokey psychoanalysis of the bad guy’s motivation. youtu.be/FMkGu8AQScA?si

Just finished Joe Hustle by @richlange.bsky.social. Really great. I think it's called a "character-driven neo-noir" but that doesn't do it justice. The genre elements serve the work, and there's a lot more going on. I'll be thinking about this one for a while.
