Amazing writing from Sally Wainwright (who also penned the amazing Gentleman Jack and Renegade Nell) and amazing acting from the whole cast.
I watched Riot Woman on the BBC earlier, and bloody hell its a must watch. Traumatic, powerful, joyous and righteous in equal parts. It exposes the uphill struggle women with menopause and perimenopause face, and also the misogyny still rife in our society, from our families to our police force.
Yup, they're a small team so the supply chain might struggle to keep up sometimes. Not sure what other alternatives there are out there, but always worth looking.
So (like a lot of people who saw @frame.work as an ethical choice) I'm looking for an alternative. Fortunately, there's a option in Star Labs Systems, and their excellent StarBook 7 (starlabs.systems/pages/starbook), cheaper than the equivalent Framework laptop, made for Linux, and it looks great!
I was looking forward to replacing our 2018 MacBook Pro with something more sustainable, and the @frame.work Laptop 16 was in my basket. Then by coincidence I found out their CEO, when challenged about supporting a known racist, had tried to hand wave it away community.frame.work/t/framework-...
Framework supporting far-right racists?
Hi, I am not exactly sure how best to frame this, but recent events have got me wondering where exactly Framework, as a company, stands with regards to human rights and equality. If I understand cor...

I keep hearing a lot about 'British Values', and as someone born and educated in Britain I'm not entirely sure what those values are, or who gets to decide what they are. I went to our governments website to find out, and it appears British Values are comma separated. Glad I cleared that up.
Eventually I found out what these values are. They are: democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. Not sure how protesting against genocide (which is against the law) is un-British, but maybe our PM can explain that.

Unbelievable! We complained to @nationalhighways.bsky.social about England flags painted on the A1 underpass at Buckden, they said they wouldn't come out unless the graffiti was 'offensive', they've since attended site, painted over the word 'nonce', and left the England flags! What is going on!?
I think someone who celebrated[1] the election of Donald Trump and described Trump's victory as "a multi-racial, multi-ethnic, interfaith, working-class coalition against progressives" is not someone who's opinion I'm going to give headspace to!

Not sure the opinion of "accountants, solicitors, barristers and retired HMRC officials, as well as senior lawyers and other experts such as auditors and forensic accountants" (i.e. the people who operate within this system and enable it) is one I'd rely on for an independent view.
I think we have to have a debate about the influence of the right-wing press. Ignoring the minors in the video (who were barely coherent), the woman was repeating right-wing lies about immigration and jobs which are constantly in the papers. This is where lying for profit with impunity get us.
I love it when I read a book, and before I even finish it I'm already looking forward to reading more from the same writer. This is Wild Folk People from the amazing Beans on Toast and its just full of lovely stories about amazing people!

Virgin Active has enforced a changing room and bathroom ban because of a threat by GB News presenter Michelle Dewberry.

Email Virgin Active and let them know they should follow the law, not transphobes 👇

I discovered a lovely English Rum at my local today. Smelled amazing, subtle flavours, an amazing aftertaste, a real treat. Highly recommend Lugger Spiced Rum, and the Horseshoe Inn at Offord D'Arcy if you're in the Huntingdonshire area.
A bottle with a wide base, tapering slightly until just under half way into a narrow neck with a wide cork bottle top. The label says "Lugger Spiced Rum" in silver against a black background with the image of a Lugger boat (small triple masted inshore fishing boat).
Loved the Make Them Pay march today in London with thousands of diverse but like minded people. Slightly confused as to why the police weren't able to stop marching bands flying the flags of various Unionist paramilitary groups (e.g. the UVF) march right through the middle of it!
A street in London with men marching in red military style uniforms carrying flags and banners representing multiple Unionist groups from Northern Ireland.
Make your mind up John Lewis. Fortunately it was delivered, might be nice to include an unboxing service so people who can't lift an 11.5kg microwave out of a cupboard box, like my mother (who's in her 80's)
Two emails from John Lewis (UK retailer) in an inbox list view. One says "Your parcel was delivered today". Another, delivered 1 minute later says " We couldn't deliver your parcel today"

The destruction of the Gaza city mosque is a devastating loss to humanity as a whole. A part of our global medieval heritage destroyed in furtherance to a genocide. I despair.
Built in the 13th century. So that mosque stood for 800 years with every sort of person from every place and every religion in the world passing through Gaza century after century, only for it to be blown up by some shithead loser sitting behind a computer that we probably paid for.

1/11 Why is Elon Musk pushing for civil war in the US and Europe?

This thread breaks down how Musk is using his platform, wealth, and influence to amplify far-right movements, incite political violence, and undermine democracy—across continents
Time to put out yourself out there, stand for a fair and free society and reject fascism. Do it now, or regret it later!
Yesterday, the largest far-right protest in UK history marched through London, led by racist Tommy Robinson.

Today, we say: They don’t speak for us — and they won’t have the last word.

This Wednesday we come together against Trump and for a better future. Do everything to be there.
Dammit. Nat put #SpellSongs (based on the amazing @robgmacfarlane.bsky.social books) and I'm in bits, instantly. The contrast between the bigotry of our government and the love and rage of the progressive movement who resist is powerful stuff. Strong recommend for www.thelostwords.org/spell-songs/

Trying to do mindfulness with a cocker spaniel in the room was amusing and challenging. Had to send him to his crate and then practice mindfulness with underlying guilt.
